Access midi map-savings: Load up already mapped devices

Post by Grappadura » Tue Feb 17, 2009 2:22 pm

Why is this not possible? Since midi mappings are saved for each project independently, why should you not be able to load up an already mapped synth? It would be so nice be able to load up a custom-mapped operator f.i.!!!!! Pleazzzzzeeee

It does seem to be a major oversight.
I'd love to be able to use automap universal with live instruments and fx.
Infact this and the fact that you can't record automation for live devices into clips is what keeps me using vst's

Yep. Actually there should be options like creating midi banks within ableton. You may have a standard midi controller with 10 knobs and you pick one of them as bank switch knob. Ableton then displays the bank name. This way you would only need one STANDARD controller to access all midi functions. Plus you would always know what knob is assigned to what function.

What might be convenient is an option to light up the currently controlled parameters.

...yes, too many times i got annoyed about that.
But, alas, i only own LiveLite, so not too much to control anyway.
And with time you can become quite proficient in mapping controllers.
Meanwhile i can do it almost with closed eyes at 100 BPM

NICE IDEA! I like it... But unfortunately seeing as they've just launched the APC40 I cant see them wanting to do this for a while. Surely they will want to rack up sales from that first.

Still it would be a very nice cherry on the cake.

But even a drag and drop to browser would be nice. You could simply select a bunch of mappings and drag them to browser to save them. They could be highlighted if the associated VST or Rack their supposed to be mapped to isn't loaded yet. Prompting you to correct this. But better yet really when you save a rack or VST to the browser all associated mappings should also be saved with it.

This is definitely a big deal this one. Get it done Ableton.

Very good idea, well observed..

This would add a good dimention to sharing rack's with maps for some abscure or less known bit's of kit.

E-MU X-board's for example.

Yes please, this would improve my workflow and seems a natural element for Live to have..

You have my vote..
