Re: play multiple loops together not pre-mixed, on one track
I have often wished I could get simpler/sampler to do something like what you describe, but I think your best bet is to have insane numbers of tracks and map notes to clips in the session view. To clean things up, why don't you put the insane number of tracks into a group? (Of course, there's the in...

Re: Is it time for MIDI 2.0 (or osc)?
I think Midi has generally turned out to be a fantastic protocol, and through the use of things like nrpn's continues to be a really solid solution to what is a very straightforward problem. I mean really, it's straight up RS-232 serial data (has a funny baud rate though). Arduino's can read it nati...

Re: Easiest way to build a custom MIDI Controller?
In terms of a hardware oriented DIY starting point, particularly if you're new to soldering etc, I think the brain is a good start... It'll give you 16 knobs/faders and 16 buttons as well as 16 LED's. It's reconfigurable in terms of the message types it can output, and comes with a usb interface... ...

Re: MJDJ MIDI Morph - Use Python/Java to write midi translators
Hey, I'd love to have a go with MJDJ... My dev skills are very minimal, but I have lots of experience with bome's (don't use it anymore since m4l). M4l is such a big thing to break out for midi mapping though...

Re: Contructing An Ongoing Beat
So, one of the many many many ways to accomplish this is to use "follow actions" in the clips. There are youtube tutorials I am sure. Essentially, in the properties for a clip you can specify a number of bars to play and an action to happen at the end (like "play next"). Make a c...

Re: shove for lemur mac
Yeah, to get it to work, there are some tricks... though on the page where I downloaded it, it was pretty clearly explained. Most importantly there is a decompiled python file on one of Julien Bayle's sites that you have to download, modify and replace in order to make ableton not fail the hardware ...

Re: First mac in my life, need help please
On Mac, you have to find the application binary, and somewhere on the properties for the app (I think...) there is a checkbox for 32/64 bit operation.

Re: What about scale in music production ?
I learned scales on a guitar which is easier in many ways than a keyboard (I think) in the sense that a particular scale pattern keeps the same shape when played in any key, where on a keyboard, the scale's ~apparent~ shape changes when you change keys. Good luck! Welcome to music! Yay neuro-plastic...

Oh, I know that it's a global setting, but it's the only answer to his question that doesn't involve m4l.

Uhhh,
Uhhh, right click on any clip in the session view, and uncheck the "select on launch" menu entry.

Re: How you killed the business of music
So, I read through this while thing, both sides, and while I see some of the points, I think that the comment about selling shovels during a gold rush is actually the most sensible way to look at the whole thing. The music retail model of yore just doesn't work for the web. Everyone seems to acknowl...

Re: 32 core opteron a good choice for ableton?
Well, I'm running 12 xeon cores in my Mac Pro... With 4 kits in machine and dozens of other NI plugins going, the fans don't even throttle up... It's nice (and quiet). Honestly though, the biggest difference was the SSD I put in. Diva however will still make the thing chug. I think it only threads o...

I actually find that the 7506's have a cleaner, more separated sound than the 7509's (I gave those to my girlfriend, kept the 7506's).

Re: Moving from PC to AppleMac
I have a 13 inch Core2Duo, so my perspective is admittedly dated. That being said, I found that the machine did pretty well until I hooked it up to an external monitor. This would really tax the integrated video and caused an immense amount of heat. I think a quad core with dedicated graphics would ...
