Re: 2.4 dual core 4 gig is it worth upgrading to 8 gig & win7 64

Hmmmm..... according to the MS sight http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(VS.85).aspx#physical_memory_limits_windows_7 The application "addressable" memory limit is at the top. For 32-bit processes the IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE is cleared by default and the limit is 2Gb. T...

Re: 2.4 dual core 4 gig is it worth upgrading to 8 gig & win7 64

Live is a 32 bit application, and as such can only address 2 megabytes at a time. Soooo... can you really use the 8 megs? It helps to go above 2 megs for the swap space and system memory stuff (drivers etc.) that run the computer outside of Live so something like 3-4 megs or greater would be good. U...

Re: RME: Latency lowest with FW, USB, or ?

It's important to realize what the DEC is really compensating for: Actual hardware latency vs. calculated. As Nico points out the driver "attempts" to calculate the latency, but can do so only approximately. (Apparently RME ASIO drivers are good at this.) Therefore I would say that...

Re: RME: Latency lowest with FW, USB, or ?

Tarekith/Leeds: I'm a little suprised at the continued talk of latency as equivalent to the buffer size setting. Most often I find it best to think of the formula: Latency_total = 2*buffer_samples+hardware_latency The only way to find out the value of hardware latency is to do a closed loop recordin...

Buffer Size in discrete multiples?

Somewhere in the last couple of years I seem to recall one of the Abe's (Amaury?) mentioning on this forum that the buffer size should be set in 2X increments, i.e. 32, 64, 128, 256, 512. I can't find it with search though. Anyone? I think Tone Deft mentioned that it should be a sticky. ??? Don't re...

Re: Bull - There are waaay less Simpler and Impulse in 8

An email with a link to update? That could be used for phishing. Dennis: I agree with most of the posters here that the updates should be user initiated. Email notification of updates would be nice, however I would also suggest that the "check for updates" menu action give a list of possib...

Re: Removing voice from a song

There is a method, I forget exactly the sequence but it involves doing a phase offset with the L and R channels and then summing them to cancel the common signal (vocals are usually inserted with no panning). This is similar to the phase cancelling trick that people use to compare the summing engine...

Re: so...DPC latency then. Anyone know much about this ?

The DPC latency checker has color coding for whats good (green). I would say that keep it green with occasional yellow. You hit red and you are going to snap, crackle and pop. ASIO4ALL is not a panacea. It is a wrapper program and was made to allow soundcards without native asio drivers to have an a...

Re: 15 yrs of dig. audio, pops & crackles still driving me nuts

Dancerchris makes some very sensible and sometimes useful suggestions, but the only service I disable is Windows Search on Win7 and Vista ( I highly recommend doing this - it won't disable searching, only the indexing which makes searches a bit faster, but at massive cost to drive speed which is co...

Re: 15 yrs of dig. audio, pops & crackles still driving me nuts

mbenigni: I can only explain this in terms of XP. But you still need to go in and start disabling non essential devices (starting with your video card) until your problem goes away. Most devices will allow Live to run including your video card, when you disable it it reverts to a standard VGA source...

Re: Has Lives soundquality improoved during the last years??

Live has a very specific sound character that is hard to describe, and I have been using Live since 4. You don't have to believe my ears, you can hear the difference of the mjor DAWs for yourself. Try the following VST to see for yourself...hearing is believing: http://sites.google.com/site/andysto...
