Looper Help please - a video tutorial anyone????

Post by sdmiddleton » Thu Jun 18, 2009 4:44 pm

Hi there.

Is it just me or is looper just totally random and ilogical???

I clear the loop...

I have no quantization setting, and i'm set to record a variable length bar and also set up to set and follow tempo of the song...

I have the big button assigned to a footswitch and for the loop to play (not overdub) the first time i finish the recording.

So as far as i know, i should be able to grab a shaker, shake a nice rythmn then the loop will place back assuming i've given some nice transients for it to work from???

It records 6 little block or beats, then after the first playback, changes this to 4 randomly and plays back something i didn't play. then if i try to overdub, it records nothing then clears itself??
WTF. Ok yeah i guess i'm lost.

Please help!!!!

Ok, I think this is actually a bug.

If i hit overdub, instead of staying on contiuous overdub till i press the button, it turns itself off as and when it feels like it...

Used 2 different pedals now in 2 different ports on 2 different Midi Controllers...Oh dear.

Anyone else having this trouble?

yep. it was fine since beta, it broke last weekend (after I got an APC, dunno if that's a coincidence.) I think you get how it should work.

My problem is similar, but may have to do with choice of footpedal.

If I just click on the multifunction button it works as expected (except that I can't play at the same time) but with a pedal assigned things are all over the place- Looper switches mode (between playback and overdub) in the middle of a loop. It is as if it is being sent a command from somewhere else?

I'm using a Roland sustain pedal which works fine for anything else.

Rob.

Yeah, thats exactly what happens with me. After the first loop, it'll 'reloop' in overdub mode but switch to playback by itself halfway through that loop... I'm using the a Yamaha FC5 footswitch. I've also tested with the yamaha FC7 and the same happens.

However, as you said it works fine assigned to midi key on a keyboard for example.

check the polarity of your pedal. It should send cc value 0 when NOT pressed and 127 when pressed.

When it's the other way round looper does strange things.

Tone, did you ever check on this?

Re: Looper Help please - made worse with APC40..

Post by sdmiddleton » Mon Jul 06, 2009 8:10 pm

Ok,

So i just got the APC40...Good stuff. has a few problems of its own.. Device On/off not behaving, sometimes track control section doesn't match what it should, but thats another topic...

Thought the new APC would solve this looper issue though...There are 2 foot switch slots on the rear, one transmits over Channel 1 CC64 and the other 67...

A double click on the pedal to stop and erase whats been recorded now doesn't work...Also, when it records back a loop, its plays back the first time with lets say, 8 blocks of a 2 bar cycle...Then the next cycle it just has 1 solid block playing back over and over and just does whatever it pleases....sometimes overdubs, sometimes plays back previous stuff in the loopers memory..(didn't know it had a memory)...I've tried both Footswitch slots and 2 different pedals...

Man this is just all so weird, things just simply not working...I'm going crazy!!! Anyone had any trouble???

Cheers!!!           :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

crap, missed this.

Looper broke with 8.0.2 or thereabouts with me. I posted a bug and wrote off Looper for a while.

FWIW I'll look into it again tonight. I'm completely sure my pedal setup didn't change between working and non-working sessions but user error is my first guess at these kinds of bugs. I had a pedal on my SL, it worked during the beta and initial release.

is anyone having success with Looper in 8.0.3 or 8.0.4? has anyone found it NOT to be broken in ALL the Live 8 releases? I miss me Looper. :(

for me it would record a loop and all subsequent recordings would have some new material AND the original loop. nothing I could hit with the mouse would clear the buffer.

Cheers tone - it is a real shame, the looper without foot pedal control is fairly pointless if you're trying to play an instrument at the same time... It also doesn't seem to be on the priority list of 8.0.5 fixes either...I am losing faith slightly!!

same problem here. Have tried various configs with diff footswitches, etc. And funny... if I run the footswitch thru Bome's Midi Translator and set it up to output a Midi note instead of a CC message I get the same wacky, buggy operation. But if I assign a Midi note from a keyboard or even the APC clip launch matrix it works fine except that I have to use my hands. Wierd bug.

:(

Come on, Abes, something is screwy here.

Looper seems to have a mind of its own. That is a whinge not a rant BTW.

Same here...

My whole goal was to to be using all software with a few controllers, for my live guitar gigs.
Seems I put too much faith in such fantasies.
I REALLY hope this is sorted in the next update.

Yep, upgraded to 8 because of the looper. I AM using it to develop a stage project and hoping the bugs get squashed in time for the first gig. (november... )

Yep, same problem here. I gave up on looper months ago. As hyped as it was, you'd think they would have fixed it by now. Or else it's a difficult thing to fix. No other loopers have these functions that I know of, but it must have worked in testing at some point. I wonder if it will be resolved.
