win 7 32 or 64?

ddr3 is nice as are the drive speeds. cpu speed leaves a bit to be desired though.

to get benefit of more than 3Go, I need 64bit OS. so windows7 64

about the cpu speed, indeed, I had some hesitation about a dual core with higher speed, or this one which is a quadcore but with a lower speed.
this comparison and the 6Mb for L2 cache + some reviews read here gave me infos for helping my choice.
i7 seems to be VERY powerful.

Hey Julianb, thanks for finding this benchmark list, i was looking for one of those, really interesting. Would be nice if an i7 laptop user could also make the ableton forum performance test, but it seems your will be the first here. Keep on writing about your purchase...!!!

no problem.
I'll do it and I'll use both live and m4L ... so it could be interesting.
I posted that too : http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=129203

my suggestion: some hp elitebook of choice (depends on the size requirements and performance requirements), with at least one intel gen2 ssd in. those laptops (with the ssd) survive about anything and rock in performance and stability.

i for now would still use vista, as it's just as fast on such a system as win7 anyways, and it's the most stable os right now for live. until live approves win7 as fully tested. so far, i had issues with the final win7 version and live.

i haven't read the thread really, i just wanted to say that about laptop choice.

finally, for price reasons, availability reasons etc, only 2 remain here:
- HP Pavilion dv7-3080ef
- Asus M60J-JX041V
On the weekend i read some articles about these two notebooks. A HP buyer at amazon wrote he had problems with the display due to the fact that the display driver is a 32bit application inside 64bit Windows 7, leading to kernel error messages and a black screen from time to time. That driver has to be updated.
The german Notebookjournal wrote about the asus that it is an incredible powerful machine, but it has a very poor display and keyboard. Over all it's a bit pricy. But with super performance results.

Have you seen the new dell studio 15 with an i7 on an offer for £670 at the moment? I'm very tempted myself. Seems incredibly good value.

sure you're getting some good advice here.

Another site you might want to look at is Notebookreview - some very helpful and knowledgeable people there - the more specifics you can provide, the more useful info you will get in return

it works VERY fine.
I'd like to quantify this.
But for the moment, I just can write : all is fast, quick
no problem with my big max for live patch, with all the instruments running

windows7 is the OS and I'm using 4Go RAM.

very cool to have found this laptop!
