Good Laptop Stand/cart
Good Laptop Stand/cart
Hunching over and squinting at laptop on stage...........not cool.
Pro Abeltoner glancing at eye level laptop .........buy this man a beer.
Does anyone have a recomendation for a laptop holder or stand? Ive got a table that comes about waist high right now and the easiest thing for me would be keep the table and just add a small stand. SO I'm either looking for a stand to go on top of the table, or some sort of cart thingamabob if the price is right. Thanks.

Re: Good Laptop Stand/cart
I was thinking about this too. There were some threads here recently, might help draw up a short-list:

Dredging this out of the depths
I'm in the same boat and am trying to save some $$. Most of the cooler laptop stands are pretty expensive. I don't really want the laptop above my keyboard and at eye level for several reasons: stability if the stand moves while I'm playing; I'd have to reach up too much to use it; and I don't want people staring right at the "keyboard laptop player" all night. The same level as the keys would be fine off to the side (since I use Live to serve up my vsts, nothing more). I will also have a small mixer as well as a mouse (my laptop has a flaky touch-screen )
I'm leaning toward a cheap x-stand--doesn't need to hold much--with a board on top (the board will be painted black.) I'm thinking the board can be secured to the two stand crossbars with small strips of wood on the board's underside that come down on either side of each crossbar...so it can't tip or slide off to the side, and the rubber thingies that keys usually sit on should keep it from sliding forward/backward. I can lift it right off the stand when packing up. At least that's the idea, we'll see

Re: Good Laptop Stand/cart
I know this is retarded but I have an Uberstand and I still cant figure out how I'm supposed to secure the laptop to the stand
Re: Good Laptop Stand/cart
If the table is low, then I just use a road case(s). The reason is that a stand can boost my laptop but it will not lift my mouse, controllers, synths, etc. so I would still have to bend in half.
If the height of the playing surface is almost ideal, then a laptop stand is very nice.

Another cheapo idea:
Speaker mount: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SSA1375/
Just attach that to a board/surface, and pop it onto a speaker stand. Should be pretty stable. You could probably work out some way to make it tilt if you wanted also.

I use a Rain mStand. It's build from a solid chunk of aluminum, and has a nice storage area beneath for you audio interface. There's a lip on the front to so your lappy wont slide and fall down in the middle of a set.
