Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
After second time called support, they say I am not using second activation and it is OK but tonight it is happenning for the 3rd time within a week.
I didnt change any hardware (support asked me about that) so it is not normal, most of places I play do not have internet and I wouldnt like to be in such situation on stage. OK it is easier now, we dont have to type anything just one click but if there is no access then....
Anyone having the problem already?

Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
On my mac it only asked once. On my pc it's asked twice. Not sure if it's a platform thing or not but i have seen it ask after being activated already.

Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
Now I am getting really pissed off. In so many years, first time getting angry with Ableton support.
Despite the information on the phone that it does not matter it seems it does. I just received E mail, approx. 2-3 hours after that last authorisation that I used 3 activations of Live 8
This is getting ridiculous- they told me on the phone that the second request for authorisation wasnt using the activation but obviously it did, and the bloody third time-which is today also.
Till Tuesday I am screwed,. Bloody Live 8 is like some lunatic asking randomly to get authorised I absolutely didnt change anything on the computer so there is something weird going on with the new system.
This is really fucked up.

Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
Sorry to hear that, hope it works out...
Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
I had to activate my windows box twice so far. (Mac laptop only once.) Got the notice saying I was out of unlocks, pinged support, and they gave me one back. Not sure why it happened but both systems have run Live a couple of times since then and they haven't asked again.
Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
It gets me worried because looks like they do not know what is really happening with that security mechanism, when I called them the explanation was that the authorisation is not same as activation- "if it is same computer no worry, it wont be counted as activation". TLooks like new system does not work as they wanted, expected to work.
Considering that many venues wont have Wlan and even then most artists off the Wlan anyway for the performance, does not seem like good solution even if the system worked properly, now it is clear that it is even worse, feels like driving with breaks that might or might not work.
I installed 8 last Saturday and the second authorisation happened 2 days later, and then tonight again. Messy , I cannot think of any major change done to the system, definitely no any hardware change other then switching WL/BT on/off.
The stupid thing is that I didnt have time to install 8 on my other computer so have no backup and meanwhile all my activations are gone without me being aware of it and no chance to solve it till Tuesday. For lack of better idea, installed 8 in 14 days demo mode now on that second notebook so that should do till I talk to support.

There is a problem and I think I know what it may have something to do with. Forgive the clumsy, seemingly BS opening sentence here, but I don't know much about computers. My geek speak is way outta line.
OK, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but about a month ago I started getting runtime errors with the last version of Live 6 when I would attempt to open it up. This was NOT the same runtime error that you could get rid of by deleting the preference file, or running ccCleaner. I figured out very quickly how to duplicate the error. It was simple. All you had to do was firewall your wireless or ethernet internet connection BEFORE starting up Live and it would ocurr everytime. If you left your wireless/ethernet on, it would never happen. Period.
The EXACT same thing happens with the unlocks, once you install live on your second computer. I think this is because Live will only allow the last unlocked computer to open itself when there is not an internet connection present to verify Live's system ID of any unlocks prior to the last. This is most likely a simple way they can determine how many machines you have loaded with the same license. If I leave my internet connection on, (which is undesirable because of probable latency errors/spikes) it will unlock every time without the little authorization flag popping up.
When the authorization window pops up, all you have to do is use your task manager to end the program so that live will close without you attempting to reauthorize your machine. DO NOT reauthorize the same machine. Your machine is what's being authorized by Ableton, NOT the unique program license itself or a file the program must depend on to work. I would be willing to bet serious cash that this is what caused my runtime errors in Live 6.0.11 when attempting to open the program without an internet connection. This is because revised or new versions of live programs are designed to import the previous version's preferences and template settings. It's just that Live 6 didn't know what to do with the new protocol. The authorization window must in reality depend on runtime to prompt itself.
It's really no big deal because once the program is opened, you can just disable or firewall your internet wireless card to prevent those nasty DPC Latency Checker spikes in the red while you are playing/recording with Live.
Whether or not what I am stating here is in reality an accurate description of some new Live security protocol, doesn't really matter. What matters is that by understanding what I just stated, you don't have to exhaust your unlocks and hassle with support. One thing you will NEVER get from the Abes is an unreasonable customer service response. They will give you more unlocks if needed, it's just that their inundated right now with the Live 8 release. They may in fact be running a skeleton crew on the weekends because of devoting so much of their workforce to the new release's support Mon-Fri.
peace,
me
Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
Interesting, too late to test/check it.I am curious what will be the explanation from the support side on Tuesday. I wish them to be protected from piracy as much as possible but not at expense of reliability.
It caught me unprepared, specially due to support assurence that there is nothing to worry about. I use Live since version 3 and there were never issues of that kind, the activation routine was known and clear. Since I hate typing any kind of serials, password that cannot be copy pasted, welcomed new system but I rather spend few minutes typing, including correcting mistakes then get surprised like last night.

Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
I have had to re-register my Live 8 twice as well.
I did notice that when off line, live 8 was crashing when opening with short cut.
Then, I was opening Live 8 by opening a song directly through windows, but this is when it started to tell me that I hadn't activated my version.
This problem seemed to only happen when my computer was off line.
If it was on a lappy and I was playing out, I would be screwed.
Hope they fix things up. Never had authorization problems before with any other versions.

Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
Watch out ,it is issue that will be fixed, I received Email from support, too tired now but will write some details tomorrow, it is network related.
Amazing support, working even on holidays, did not expect that. They didnt solve the problem but have me as customer forever.

Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
As soon as you disable or enable a network card, and then start Live, it will want to re-authorize. This is absolutely horrible, and a BIG BIG pain! So, well, as soon as there is a cracked version of Live8, the pirate community will have a much better working product than us paying for it (as usual with copy protected software...). Great news, eh? =/
Up until now, the Ableton copy protection has been pretty OK, hasn't caused that much trouble, but this is really bad.

Re: Already asked 3rd time to authorise Live 8,
Never had this with any version of Live. I'm still on 7. Here's another great reason not to bother with 8.
If it weren't for the fact that Live enables, and encourages my creativity to such a degree, I'd be looking elsewhere. Activation should not be part of any software product that costs so much. I've given Ableton a lot of money over the years, and they still don't trust me enough to only install it a couple of times.
Shame seq24 is MIDI only...

Does this happen when you turn off airport/wifi as well?rydan wrote:As soon as you disable or enable a network card, and then start Live, it will want to re-authorize. On my macbook osx 10.5.6, no, that works. The disable network problem is on my WinXP machine (and yes, on that machine it's a USB wLan card).i3igTripplets wrote:Does this happen when you turn off airport/wifi as well?rydan wrote:As soon as you disable or enable a network card, and then start Live, it will want to re-authorize.
