Remote SL remote scripting!
I'm using a custom remote script with my Remote SL instead of using template 40 (i have mine script doing something very different than the novation template).
i can control things fine, but i can't get value updates from the computer (ie: turning a knob with the mouse or switching devices) onto the Remote SL.
Like if i click on a device, all my encoders keep the value of the previous device... which means they all need to be "picked up".
i've tried all the controller surface 'out' ports as well as used a midi cable outputing live's midi but nothing.. i can't get the Remote SL to update parameters from Live.
Has anyone got this to work? The whole thing works in template 40 so i assume it can be done.
i'm thinking the encoder (and other control) values are unlinked from the midi values in some way. like, on my BCR2000 if i set 2 knobs to CC1.. they both move when i move one. the bcr also has no trouble receiving value updates.

WHat do you use for scripting?

Re: Remote SL remote scripting!
found my answer...
what a fucking piece of garbage.Do the ReMOTE templates support feedback from the software being controlled?
No, they do not. When the ReMOTE is used in controller mode it can send MIDI data but will not respond to it. MIDI data sent back to the ReMOTE from your DAW/sequencer can only be routed to the MIDI out ports on the back of the ReMOTE. The ReMOTE only communicates with your software in a one-way fashion when in controller mode. This means that if you use a control on the ReMOTE to control a software parameter and then use the mouse to alter that same parameter, the value of the control on the ReMOTE will not update after changing it with the mouse. The control will remain on the value it was at after it was last operated by hand.
Automap is a revolutionary system developed by Novation which uses two-way communication between the MIDI controller and software to get round this problem. Automap is only available on the ReMOTE SL, ReMOTE ZeRO SL and ReMOTE SL Compact models. Click here to find out more about Automap.

Re: Remote SL remote scripting!
can someone please see if the ReMOTE SL MKII provides visual feedback when in 'controller mode' (ie: not automap).

No. Search for some posts I did on this ages ago when I first bought my Zero SL.
Novations official statement was that it is only one way communication and you can't update the LCD values without automap == supergay.

why dont you just use the automap server to open midi in/out ports (user category)? You can then use remote scripting to interact with the midi template, which should receive data both ways. you also get the advantage of being able to set up several pages of custom midi layouts for each port

I'm listening, how do you map to the automap server?

Re: Remote SL remote scripting!
(this is assuming you have the latest version of the automap software)
*bring up the GUI
*Settings-> midi output port -> choose a port (i use midi yoke or the automap midi that came with the nocturn)
*Same for input if you want midi messages sent to it
*settings->midi channels-> choose however many channels you want. consider these each a unique automap template for basic MIDI messages
select your channel via the USER group button. customize it to your liking (I like making the buttons hold buttons instead of toggles). All the MIDI ccs can be reassigned as well. Dont be afraid to use multiple pages if you wish.
Set up ableton live to allow remote control from the midi port you chose for basic midi assignments, or set up your remote script to communicate to the remote/nocturn through the port and channel(s) you decided on and enable them in the control surfaces.

ahh too bad. It must be diff on osx, I have none of that available to me and I'm on 3.2. Do you have Pro?

I do have pro, but its not a pro feature. All versions have this ability. They must do it different on OSX. In the older version on windows, the settings menu was brought up by right clicking on the server tray icon. Just find out where your automap server settings are and all that stuff will be there. I'mm pretty damn sure its in the settings drop down menu on the GUI/HUD

Ok, i'll do some hunting.
So doing this hack enables you to receive 2 way feedback like a normal midi controller?
i.e. I can move my mapped Sylenth1 knob on screen and see it reflected in the LCD?

it already does that with the regular automap server (using a sylenth automap template).
This is a way to create bidirectional MIDI templates that are simple midi CC messages. This allows you to create custom midi remote scripts if one so chooses. Or you want to be simple, just to map controls to parameters the old fashioned MIDI assignment way (good for live sets).

People talk mad shit on novation automap stuff, but its always cause they dont know how to rock it. once you figure out what it can do and how to use it, its really a godsend.
