Damn, no place for me at the bar...

Post by Earwax69 » Fri Oct 02, 2009 1:35 pm

Hi, I went to see the place im playing for the first time next week. Small, cozy and a big set of speakers. Great!

BUT there is no place in the DJ boot for my stuff (minimal... a 13inch laptop and a controller.)

Here the pictures:

Should I ask them to make some place or should I manage something? I'll plug my laptop in the middle mixer.

Turn those CD mixers on their side and lay a bookshelf-type board across them, done.

^+1

It doesn't seem very clever having that monitor so close to the decks.

I have no idea why that monitor is there... the guy said Hey, there is even a speaker for you!! I was wondering why I would need a mono monitor when there is headphones just aside. Haaaaa japaneses!!

I'd unplug and move both of those cd players and slide the mixer over.

Get two pieces of foam and put them on the turntables.

I can't tell how much standing room you have. Could you bring a cheap keyboard stand and plank of wood and set up right in front of the mixer?

Crap link but reckon will be just the job for a sturdy surface, capable of sitting securely on top of the cdj's without busting the knobs & sliders off:

May need to turn the cdj's off though as will of course sufocate anything it rests on.

just put your laptop and controler on top of CDJ, or turntable. Don't worry for that, no need to stress at all.

ah, ok, well then, yeh either foam on the turntables or foam/padding/pillows on the CDJs with a bookshelf-type board laid across.

Look, work with it: this is the underground music scene, fer crine out loud, you don't get a brushed aluminum ergonomic techno-altar. :-D lol

Thanks for all the replies!!

mmm yeah, a lots of differents ideas and most would work ok. I dont wanna spend money as its a free gig. I will ask the owner if I can move the cdj first. If not, I'll turn them on the side.

I like the beans bag tray idea but its 60$. Perfect for breakfast though!

Thanks!!

japanese or chinese? solved the riddle already?
confucius says: never feed two tracks through one headphone. greatest beatmixing joy shall be achieved by separating the room from the cue.
