How do I do this?
At the moment I have Live 8 (8.1.2b4 & 8.1.1) running happily, with the Live 8 Library and Live 7 Legacy Pack installed.
When I use Live 7 (7.0.18) or Live 6 (6.0.10) the devices all work, but all the presets are broken. I downloaded the Live 6 Basics.alp, but when installing it, it wants to overwrite existing stuff (which I think will kill the Live 8 presets, right?)
Can I just change the library path in preferences in Live 6 to create a new folder in Application Support/Ableton, like "Library_6", for example?
Is that the right way to go about it?
Keeping Live 6, 7 and 8 libraries co-existing happily?
Re: Keeping Live 6, 7 and 8 libraries co-existing happily?
use separate libraries
when starting on a new version of live, copy your last library and then upgrade it for the new version.
audio files could be loaded from other libraries, but as you noted, usually presets won't be able to. especially true for live 8, i think. seems a lot of file format changes recently
personally I would not like the libraries to be in that default location in documents..

Cheers longjohns - done, I now have 3 independent library folders and it seems to all run fine now...
