Looks awesome, will look for it. One of the pleasant surprises of the iPad is how decent the mic and speaker are just for quiet ad hoc work.

PS: I contributed ambient music (using mostly Metasynth) for an app Pure Meditation Premium for iPhone, along with binaural beat frequencies with user presets saving mixes between different sounds and beat freqs. When its time for closing eyes and moving into the vast inner worlds.

this looks great. how much prep is needed for our own loops? all the same bpm? will it repitch to match the current bpm?

Thanks for the replies - hopefully it won't take a few days to get released but you never know. I'll post here when it is.

It does not re-pitch loops or do any sort of time-stretching. However, it will play a loop at 1/2 speed or 2x speed. The idea here is that (as an Ableton user) you would have some clips that you simply export in whatever length they are. As long as all the loops are some multiple of one another then that's it. They will all stay in time as appropriate.

It took me about 2 minutes tops to export 5 or 6 loops for some of my example sessions that come with the program. Not any harder than slicing them up for mlr or any other non-Ableton looping environment really.

Hope this helps and thanks again for your interest!

yeah, thanks. imo this is the best audio ipad app i've seen so far, looks like it takes good advantage of the multitouch interface. i'm waiting for some must have apps before i spring for an ipad, but this is the first one on the list!

That is super-awesome to hear! I have been really inspired by the monome in the past 6 months and it was on my mind the entire time I was creating this. I basically created an app that I would want to use and I feel very happy with it as a 1.0. I have a list of ideas for 1.5 and beyond but am looking forward to hearing more from others - so if you pick it up when it's released please let me know what you think and help me define future versions.

I should have some more demos up soon - planning on tonight - and will post here when I do.

Thanks,

Is it safe to assume that 'AIF/WAV support' means that you can import your own samples/loops?

Yes. Using iTunes you can copy most any non-compressed 44KHz 16-bit WAV or AIF file to the device that will be shared with the app. You can then select your samples on any track and save them as part of a session.

On another note - I've uploaded of the app being played live...

Enjoy!

Hey All,

Apple has approved chipPad and it is now available for iPad. There is a link to the store on my web site and I also put up an online version of the help file that is built into the app. You can check it out at http://earsmack.com/

Thanks everyone for the kind words about the app - I'm looking forward to hearing from some users and making it even better!

Let's hope not! I need Live to create the loops I use in chipPad! :)

An odd question, slightly off topic but: do you think this will be usable (ie is the Ipad usable) in the daytime, outside? I want something to do music wise on my lunch hours.

I recently tried doing some work on my Nintendo DS, with the Korg DS, but it was not much fun.

I think it should be OK, standing in the shade as needed

You're obviously trolling but actually Live and Maschine is a perfect combo for and chipPad will be an excellent option for MLR-style live performance.
