stems not syncing

Post by dahkter » Thu Jun 10, 2010 4:17 am

Hello,
I'm trying to learn how to navigate the arrangement window.

As a start, I was dragged some stems into the arrangement window.

OK so far, however when I hit play, the stems are not playing in sync. All are the same length and work perfectly fine in other software.
Can someone please tell me how to remedy this?

Turn off Warp for all of them.

You were probably stitched up by "Auto-Warp Long Samples" in Live's preferences. I usually leave this off - it's more a DJ feature than a production feature.

Thanks for the reply Pitch Black.
That did the trick, it just becomes a bit disorienting when you turn warp off, no ability to scrub through the sample in clip view, kind of feels weird.
If you grab a chorus from the stems and drag them into session view, do you then warp them at that point to have more control?

I usually set the tempo of my project to the known tempo of the stems, and then drag the stems into the Arrange page. Then I manually turn on Warp for all of them. 99.99% of the time this results in the stems being perfectly in sync and warped ready for use/abuse.

One thing that really grinds my gears, If you spend a long time automating a track, then decide you want to change the global tempo, the automation stays fixed to the original global tempo and doesn't stick to the audio/midi parts you wanted to automate and doesn't scale down!! (i think?!). I guess maybe part of the whole 'why can't automation snap to grid debate'... :x

Eh? automation always stays in place with tempo changes... two bars of automation at 180bpm is still two bars at 110. Unless you have the "Lock Envelopes" button unlocked, in which case automation will follow when you move Clips.
