issue when recording midi CC in a loop (session view)

Post by mr.ergonomics » Wed Apr 21, 2010 11:09 pm

hi,

just want to know if someone else has problems with this too or know how to solve this problem.

I want record CC (the modwheel for example) in session view, but I often (not always) get strange parameter jumps at the beginning (look at the picture I slowly moved the controller and there is a short break at the beginning).

Image

- make a 1 bar midi clip
- set up record for this clip and activate overdub
- move your controler and look at the written data

it's very difficult to record popper (that mean record it like you want to hear it) midi modulation for a loop with this behaviour.

thanks

i'm not sure if it is related but i have generated truly bizarre midi clips by punching in/out in overdub mode..

It's tricky, you have to stop moving the controller before the end of the loop.

I think that's really not an option. Or do I get you wrong?

Live has even this great feature that you can undo every round of the recording - so if you record beyond the end - in a loop that means overwrite the beginning - you just hit undo and all the recording which is beyond the loop end is undone - like a 'after punch out'.

That's not the problem, this 'problem' does also occur when you record a endless loop, like if there is a hick up at the loop start.

I really like to use this like the knob automation from an electribe or maschine.

I agree with you, it's a bit fiddly to work with that on session view.

i think that it´s rather a bug.. in an previous version of L8 it has erased the data in the beginning of the loop path and after undo it just was gone... so this is maybe a side effekt of the fix that is not perfected yet..

This is too basic in ableton, still a big issue for me, I'm a fanboy from fxpansions guru, the system how you can write automation works so easy and perfect and I think I know the key features why, I will post something regarding this issue in the next days.
