8.0.5 MIDI Issues

Post by zalo » Thu Sep 17, 2009 5:37 am

any change in one midi mapped value makes live report values for every mapping over every output

i use live to control external synths, so when i cue a clip in live, it ties up the midi output delaying the note from playing

but this is a pretty huge issue, if you would like me to post the midi monitor capture, i would be more than happy to

here are the midi monitor capture text for live 8.0.4 and 8.0.5

they are a lot of text so i uploaded them to my website

both are the same action set, open the set, start the first clip in track 1, cue a clip on track 2

notice how each action dumps the entire midi value set in 8.0.5 making the file 3 times as long

ill try and make a video tomorrow showing the delay

mh.. an this is what the midi monitor shows up after using one mapped controller?
The values are sent just on channels 1 and 16, are both according to your mapping?
Is solely 1 and 16 receiving/sending?

Could be some midifeedback? Just guessing.. are you using midiyoke (or any other internal-virtual-midiport SW) in conjunction with jazzdeamon?

in the live804 file it shows the midi dump when you open the set, this is normal,

i map my global controls to 16 and i started at 1 for everything else, my synths are controlled using channels 11-15, but i did not have them hooked up when i ran this, it makes no difference to the bug in ableton,

when hooked up to everything there is even more in the monitor since it also outputs the dump to the FF400 midi port 1 which goes to the synths

all i am using is live and jazzdaemon when i ran this, ive dealt with midi feedback loops and this is not one

these midi outputs were not even from starting/cueing a track from a midi controller, this was using the mouse

im more than competent with midi, and i would not be complaining if this was not an issue, you can see the difference in midi output between the 2 versions

Thank you for bringing this to my (and everyone else's) attention. I am developing a set on win that nearly evades midi bottleneck issues already with 8.0.4. Midi yoke seems to choke on the sloped-data (constant change) midi changes I send back into Live. What you have described in 8.0.5 sounds like it could be a total nightmare. I will try to find some time to look into this myself in the next few days. Dang.

Thank you for posting.

:)
ask something like this:
where is the play button in live?

and the answer comes in hours! :

youll find the play button at the upper field of the screen
best,

dom/kleine/jok/whatever

but ask something like that and there will be a long silence and then MAYBE a really stupid answer.
buy logic ;)

I once had a problem and I received a pm from an abe with an unusual technical workaround almost immediately. Solved my problem instantly and saved me from a lot of hell. When it can be solved they seem to jump at it I feel.

I can't imagine they have ever had their plates as full as they have had them recently. Two companies. Different time zones. Snow Leopard.

I hope things get pulled together soon. Either mfl so that there are flexible workarounds or a stable update on win is key. Having neither is a bit of pain.
