Using Aliases/Symbolic Links For AU Presets Not Working
Using Aliases/Symbolic Links For AU Presets Not Working
I use Ableton on my home machine and my work machine, and I have them synced up using dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/). This way I can work on the tracks stored in the dropbox folder, and any save I make on one machine will update my online dropbox folder and sync when I open the project on the other machine. This works as a great system and saves me having to transport files around with me.
I have a problem though, it seems Live is unable to utilise symbolic links or aliases when accessing the AU plugin 'Presets' folder stored in ~/Library/Audio/. In order for me to share presets between computers and have them auto-update as described above, I am creating an alias of the 'Presets' folder stored in my dropbox, and moving it to the above location. This works fine with Logic, it sees the alias and follows it, so it then accesses the presets stored in my dropbox folder. However, in Ableton I get a message upon startup saying 'The folder "/Users/MY_NAME_HERE/Library/Audio/Presets" was not found'.
Does anyone know if there is a way round this, it seems Ableton has a problem recognising either alias folders or symbolic links in this particular scenario, and although not the end of the world, it does interrupt my seamless workflow a bit.

Re: Using Aliases/Symbolic Links For AU Presets Not Working
the pity is I have the same problem too, I've come across lots of solutions, but none has worked for me.
Re: Using Aliases/Symbolic Links For AU Presets Not Working
Is there a particular reason why Ableton does not allow the use of aliases or symbolic links?
Re: Using Aliases/Symbolic Links For AU Presets Not Working
Furthermore, it appears aliases used to kind of work in previous versions of Ableton - http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... highlight=
Having the ability to use aliases would really make using Ableton a joy, it's cumbersome having to manually copy presets between machines all the time.
