using clips to play video (VJs in here ?)

Post by chapelier fou » Thu Dec 15, 2011 6:16 pm

For some reason i'd like to find a program which allows to play video clips in response with midi notes.
My idea is triggering a clip in live would trigger the proper video section in ...........(fill the gap) via IAC bus for instance.

Any idea ?

Modul8 is what I use, but any VJ app that receives MIDI will do. Funny I was just showing someone how to do this the other day. In the pic below, Live is sending note 66 on ch1 via the IAC bus to a video clip slot in Modul8.

I use one computer for Live and one for Modul8 for gigs, but they play nicely on the one computer for programming at home. Running audio and video off one machine can be very taxing to the CPU/RAM etc, depending on how complex your Live set is / how many video clips / what size your video clips are etc.

Most VJ apps have a free demo version - download and try it! :)

My bad. I think i'll simply use jitter on a second computer.
Never dealt with video before. How to send the video to a regular TV screen ?

Just connect a 2nd monitor (or projector) to your mac's monitor port, set to an "extended desktop" (as opposed to "mirrored") in mac Displays Preferences, then depending on the video app, tell it to go fullscreen on the external monitor. In Modul8, fullscreen mode is toggled by apple-U and apple-T.

<edit> by "regular TV" what do you mean? What sort of video inputs does it have? Which Mac do you have?

no probs, man, i'll sort it out ! it will be output by a macbook, and going to different tvs, depending on the venue (i'd prefer old school ones).
BTW, you're from NZ ? i am playing there in march, could be nice to meet you !
