Fix Takeover Mode please!

Post by condra » Sat Mar 07, 2009 12:45 am

Hi Ableton.

I recently bought a Kork NanoKontrol and was disappointed to discover that Live doesn't properly cater for soft takeover with midi controllers which use multiple banks.

With all due respect, I was very surprised to encounter this problem, and I feel it is a something that should have been addressed long ago.

Personally, I consider this a bug rather than a missing feature. There is a "takeover mode" in preferences, but it is obviously not working as people would like it to, ie - like how it works in Native Instruments Traktor Pro and most other "pro audio" applications.

Also, more worryingly..
Appearantly the AKAI APC40 WILL allow for soft takeover despite the fact that the issue is clearly a SOFTWARE one!

Will Ableton be purposfully excluding real soft takeover mode from Live, in order to (possibly) sell a few extra APCs?

Please assure me that you aim to resolve this problem.

On second thoughts, this is not likely, considering AKAI themselves would greatly benefit from Ableton fixing takeover mode in Live. Indeed AKAI produce the MPK49 and MPD32, both of which are controllers which feature switchable banks, and would benefit greatly from an improvement in this area of Live.

so if you consider this a bug why
don't you post it in the bugs section ?
they are working on bug fixes for live 8
at the moment so it is a good time for
reporting even older bugs...

I did. It has been labelled "JAB", which appears to be Ableton speak for, "external influences- low priority."

JAB is Jan Buchholz of the Ableton Beta Team.
So the label means that he is the one who is taking care of your post.
Don't know if it automatically means that they consider it a bug.
