Snapshots

Post by nicogrubert » Fri Apr 03, 2009 2:41 pm

A snapshot is a saved state of everything in ableton's session view.
Let's say I have 8 clips playing. All SEND knobs have value "0%". I want to save this state in order to go back to this state after I changed a lot of values - e.g. I turned the SEND knobs on some tracks to "100%", changed some parameters of some VST plugins on the master, stopped 2 clips, etc.

Imagine you play something (e.g. the break of a track). You move faders, turn knobs. Then you almost at the end of the break and then you re-call the snapshot to bring the beat back. ;-)

If anyone knows the Yamaha SU700 ... this machine has 8 snapshot buttons where you can save the current scene by holding down one of the 8 snapshot buttons for 2 seconds. To recall the saved snapshot just hit the button where you saved the snapshot. This is an excellent live feature!

I thought Live was developed for using it live on stage but I see more and more Live is being developed as a full DAW and in my opinion they loose their original focus a little bit.
Please, less DAW features, more Live-on-stage-features... :-)

However, I'll give ableton 8 a try as my new DAW. ;-)

It´s similar on the Elektron Machinedrum where you can tweak for ex. the bitrate or the decay on all presets at the same time and with a simple key combo you reset command all values to preset default.
Ableton 9.2 Suite + Push, Elektron Octratrack, Nord Lead A1, Nord Drum 2 + Nord Pad, Mono Evolver Desktop, microKorg, SidStation, Nanoloop 1.3-2.01, Mackie 1402 VLZPro, Edirol FA-66

All snapshot features of SU700 ,you can find in Phrazor,by the way, its also match better on the groove side than Ableton.
