Preroll-possibility for Session view clips

Post by posssu » Thu Oct 16, 2008 11:05 am

I'd like to be able to define "negative" startpoint for a clip in session view. This would mean that if I launch the scene early enough, Live will start playing the clip from negative offset, reaching the starting point at the correct beat.

The reason for this is that you could create for example a fill that leads to the chorus so that you just launch the chorus almost one bar before it should start and the drum-clip of chorus will start to play the fill that is set before the 1st beat and the chorus will play nicely from beginning when Live reaches beat 1.

The way it could work is that when you turn "Preroll" on, you get another clip-start-indicator and get to set it before the current indicator. If you set it 1 bar before the actual clip start indicator, Live will start to play the clip max. 1 bar before the actual start after it has been launched.

Currently it's very difficult to glue the scenes together like this and having an option to define preroll for clips (when wanted, of course) would solve this problem.

great idea! that way you don't have to put a bunch of empty audio at the front of the clip just to get it to stay in time.

that would help me a lot too

Mother-fuckin' hell yeah!!! I've been thinking about this for ages! It'd be easy too. The way I get around it at the moment is recording silence at the beginning of the clip.

But I hate doing that.

A big +1 from me.
