Help me to make a tapestop effect !

Post by chapelier fou » Sun Feb 14, 2010 6:41 pm

Hi, I am a kind of beginer in audio processing in max. As I switched to mac, I've lost my beloved tapestop effect, and wish to create one in m4l.

I can have decent results with preloaded sounds and using the [line] object to slow down and up the playback speed.

But I have no idea how to make this with an incoming audio signal. Any help ?

also a bit new to this... but logic says you need a "read-ahead" buffer of some milliseconds..
try "buffer~"... you can record in to it on the fly... then when you hit "stop" you can maybe play and modulate the speed and pitch somehow (in a non-linear way)...

or maybe you should do the whole process on the fly,,,
I'll try and build one too..just for fun..

Man i so want this back as well.... My favourite was the tapestop of beatlookup in reaktor, i'd love to get that back in max4live but i haven't even looked at buffer (squiggle) yet....

I'd love some pointers!

ok... I think maybe the "tapin~" and "tapout~" objects may be the ticket..

patched this up from stuff on the c74 forum...
I guess you can build on this ...
have the 'mod freq' under 1. or over -1.
and play with the 'mod index' ...

Maybe i'm missing something but this just make a high pitched whiny version of my audio?

Isn't there meant to be a button to press to make the tape stop?

Cheers

it's a start.. the guy wanted help in building a device..

you can build on it.. like.. change the cycle~ to output a 'ramp' shape lfo.. and make a button that toggles that in/out...
I don't have time right now.. but this is a good start

So, zalo, I just had a try. This quite good actually, except :

-I can hear a kind of glitch when hiting stop
-I'd like values in ms instead of beats
-I'd like a "tapeplay", like switching between stop and play, with also a slow up effect, and different values for up and down.

Anyway, that's a good starting point and I'll try to cusomize it.

Thank you very much !
