10.6 Snow Leopard Ableton Performance

Post by mnmlmike » Mon Aug 17, 2009 9:14 pm

I haven't done much testing yet but I was working on a session last night that took up about
70-80% of my CPU in Ableton. I upgraded to 10.6 and now that same session is about 30-35% and everything
is running fine.

Not too shabby if you ask me

In the past few hours that I've been rocking it, it's pretty great over here. Everything is just
quick and zippy. iTunes opens in the time of one dock bounce (if that makes sense)

and ummm.... err.... no..... it's not "technically" out.

Don't even own a Mac and I understand that one.. Sounds pretty sweet.

They probably think you have a money bush, or maybe just money shrubs?

30$ isn't much for what you get. The -8gb HD space is nice too. Really looking forward to the live performance though. My first gen macbook suuuuucks. I don't trust it one bit to play live anymore...

How does that work it literally just deletes and replaces certain parts of the OS?

I think the main thing is that it's trimming the fat by not having any PPC support in your computer.

This also could explain the reduced sizes:

Hi Mnmlmike, would be great if you could post some more Live benchmarks... are you using Live 8?

Thanks

Sadly I'm rocking 7 still unless anyone wants to hook up a copy of 8 ;)

I'll do Tarekiths test in the AM when I wake up.

Can you detail the kind of machine you have?
From this (http://www.osnews.com/story/22009/Snow_ ... by_Default) article
it seems that Snow Leopard doesn't boot in 64 bit mode by default so the performance boost should come from
grand central...
