Beatjumping in Ableton??
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to create a beatjumping control in ableton like there is in traktor, I was seeing if there was a way to change the quantization as you hit the nudge forward and back buttons, or it theres someway to move the start marker at the beginning of the clip by set CC amount to go to 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and 1 bar amounts forwards and backwards
any ideas???
any ideas???
Re: Beatjumping in Ableton??
Clip nudge buttons within clip + global launch quantization in top bar = what you've asked!
If your looking for a more complex answer then you should search the manual for keystroke commands and see that a number of them are dedicated to changing the quantize to the most popular values (CTRL 0 etc.) which then effect the clip nudge behaviour....
Cheers

Re: Beatjumping in Ableton??
ok So I got it to sort of work on my trigger finger by maping each button in the row of 4 to a CC amount that would adjust the global quantization to 1 bar, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, essentially a chain. The problem is the nudge won't nudge unless if it is pressed at a faster rate than the quantization, this causes losses in signal and takes away from the natural feel, any suggestions?

Actually Clist's BeatLookUp has the best one around.
Not %100, but I believe you can tweak out a series of beatRepeats in a rack, to imulate beatjumping.
As much as I love Ableton, there are some things it suprizingly has not caught up with the competition on.

hehe i'd like to somehow make it one beatjump unit, with a selectable parameter on how big. and then map different buttons to different sizes to jump.S4racen wrote:Some new path trickery for me to learn NICE!

in essence, i want that +16 and -16 to be dynamic. well, next week i have holidays and nothing to do. we'll see. the most important thing is, it already works good enough to be used on stage

Re: Beatjumping in Ableton??
Can you change the live.object to an observer and thdn observe the playing_slot_index whenever it changes? In which case unlink the forward.reverse buttons and replace them with a loadbang, then have messages of the lengths you want linkeds to different buttons, firing into a prepend call move_playing_position object if this outputs to a t b l into a message box that fires finally into your live.object at the bottom....

that both was me not another user.
this is max4live (check ableton.com for information about it).
you don't need that per se, but it helps. there's info on top of the thread on how you can do that without that plugin.
