New discovery (mac) - 3 finger drag . sweet for abe devices.

Post by glitchrock-buddha » Sun Oct 24, 2010 7:42 pm

So for some reason I've never loved drag lock on mac trackpad, I just found it to be a lot of tapping and untapping, so I thought I'd try it without lock on and I finally decided to take a look at the three and four finger gestures again. I never much cared about the three finger thing because it was always on 'swipe to navigate', but I now noticed that it has an option for dragging as well. Turns out this is pretty awesome. So much quicker, locking isn't necessary, and also it allows you to not only move windows around and drag over menu items like you would with drag lock, but also it lets you adjust parameters in ableton with quick swiping like you can with two finger scrolling on many plug-ins. Pretty awesome when doing many minor adjustments and sound design.

That was one thing I still didn't love about the trackpad, but now there's so much less tapping required, it's fantastic. I highly suggest the maccers try it out.

Nice, thanks for adding it to the tips and tricks. This has already made everything so much nicer, I keep finding things in DAWs that it's great for. Even simple things like dragging a new plug-ins onto a track is so much better. A single swipe instead of double tap/drag/tap. Same for highlighting clips, or notes in the piano roll. This is the last nail in the coffin for my mouse for sure.

Absolutely! It's also like a new feature of many of my plug-ins that donn't support mousewheel scrolling for parameters, like Reaktor. So awesome now to have that in Reaktor.

Sounds great, but am I right in thinking that this only works with the unibody macs and newer? I.e. Won't work with my pre-unibody macbook pro...?

Recognises second finger for scrolling, but no option for more than 2 fingers in preferences, as far as I can see...

Thanks - no, my trackpad preference screen is completely different (running 10.6.2), much simpler, far fewer options... ok, thanks for clarifying-

Definitely a handy feature. I like the inertial scrolling in the new MBPs too. Easy to flick your way around the arrange view.

It is only for the newer style trackpads, but even for those with older macs, you can still get the external trackpad to replace a mouse. It has the three and four finger functions. I got the bluetooth trackpad for my desk setup and it's great. Takes much less room than a mouse needs and you can fit it pretty much anywhere.

Is there a gesture for zooming in Live? Could be really handy.
