It's current affairs time... Documentary: Unseen Gaza

Post by dum » Tue Feb 16, 2010 10:15 pm

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/disp ... /episode-3

Is what has been presented on our screens and in our papers a true reflection of events on the ground in Gaza? And how do these reports differ to those aired in other countries?

With reporters unable to enter Gaza, attempted media manipulation from both sides and strict regulations governing what images that can be shown on British TV, Jon Snow asks a range of journalists from at home and abroad about the challenges of getting the full story.

Featuring images that haven't before been aired on mainstream television, Jon also examines the difference between the coverage at home and that in the US, Europe and the Middle East. He compares the coverage available on terrestrial channels with satellite TV and the internet and investigates the extent to which some British Muslims are by-passing the mainstream British media and looking elsewhere for their information.

To what extent does the choice of news outlet affect opinion of the conflict?

it's broadcast on channel four which is a UK service, so it seems you guys need a UK ip address to view it. Try looking up UK proxies.

I'm looking for other documentaries (for example Yoav Shamir's ''Defamation'' which asks the question 'what is anti-semitism today?') that might be of interest , if I find either hosted elsewhere I'll post back. Between now and then, if you really want to watch it I suggest looking for a UK proxy.

Unlike american 'journalism' it's objective & sincere.

man you're all over the place...
you're really hyped..
hate on whoever you like.. it'll lead to nowhere..
but balance your sources and try to get the whole picture...
also ..you don't have to call it anti-semitism.. you just need someone to hate.

that's all I'm gonna say on this thread.

I'll let Bobby D. play me off...

Neighborhood Bully(from 'infidels' 1983)

Well, the neighborhood bully, he's just one man,
His enemies say he's on their land.
They got him outnumbered about a million to one,
He got no place to escape to, no place to run.
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully just lives to survive,
He's criticized and condemned for being alive.
He's not supposed to fight back, he's supposed to have thick skin,
He's supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in.
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land,
He's wandered the earth an exiled man.
Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn,
He's always on trial for just being born.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized,
Old women condemned him, said he should apologize.
Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad.
The bombs were meant for him.
He was supposed to feel bad.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, the chances are against it and the odds are slim
That he'll live by the rules that the world makes for him,
'Cause there's a noose at his neck and a gun at his back
And a license to kill him is given out to every maniac.
He's the neighborhood bully.

He got no allies to really speak of.
What he gets he must pay for, he don't get it out of love.
He buys obsolete weapons and he won't be denied
But no one sends flesh and blood to fight by his side.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he's surrounded by pacifists who all want peace,
They pray for it nightly that the bloodshed must cease.
Now, they wouldn't hurt a fly.
To hurt one they would weep.
They lay and they wait for this bully to fall asleep.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Every empire that's enslaved him is gone,
Egypt and Rome, even the great Babylon.
He's made a garden of paradise in the desert sand,
In bed with nobody, under no one's command.
He's the neighborhood bully.

What's anybody indebted to him for?
Nothin', they say.
He just likes to cause war.
Pride and prejudice and superstition indeed,
They wait for this bully like a dog waits to feed.
He's the neighborhood bully.

What has he done to wear so many scars?
Does he change the course of rivers?
Does he pollute the moon and stars?
Neighborhood bully, standing on the hill,
Running out the clock, time standing still,
Neighborhood bully.

PEACE.

I'm all over the place ?

how did you go from this:

to this:

And by the way - Peace on who's terms ?
Seriously, you saying Peace is as meaningless as you claiming anti-semitism when someone calls FOUL on israeli policies.

Freedom for Palestine.

Freedom for Palestine.Amen.
I'll be way more happy than you on that day.. you can bet your ass on that...
and by peace .. I mean no fighting.no war . anti-war.

by all over the place... I meant you've started with insights on Gaza.. (which I couldn't watch unfortunately).
and then on an essay about 'neu-antisemitism' written by a Jew...
that's a very weak link right there..
also .. you're concern for Palestinians / anti-Israel/Zionist/___<_enter any other name here...
was triggered in another thread. where I only mentioned being in the army.and was called names by you
that's also when you opened THIS THREAD ... so this is pan-thread all-over fever.

and.. I wasn't even trying to fight you. I was trying to not cause a hate-fest again...
but I'm not gonna sit back and let you call me names and slander.
if you did that to my face ..well... you wouldn't have would you..?
.. I'm not a patriotic person.. but this is my home. and this is reality...
and I'm not scared of truth..

as far as comparison to the Nazis.. very weak and uneducated...
(I'm betting even the Nazis are offended by this statement)

so.. I welcome you to show me 1 side of the coin..I'll show you the other.. or a bit of both...
maybe then we'll have a better view of things..

Wow, you found something on the internet slanted towards your view point so you can claim it as unbiased fact. What a rare treasure.

And of course anything not covered by the US or is opposed to the US view is the highest authority on truth.

*facepalm*

You're really slow man. At least do a little research into something before you refute it.
First of all, I didn't 'find' it on the internet because - *gasp* - unlike you I actually keep up with current affairs on a daily basis and saw this when it was first broadcast. Channel 4 host their broadcasts on their website. Whacky, eh ?
The irony of your post is you automatically don't like what I'm posting here because it doesn't seem to be slanted towards YOUR point of view - or lack thereof. And you didn't even do a teeny bit of research which would have taken seconds to validate what I was posting as either legit - or conspiracy bullshit.

Look up Jon Snow
Look up Channel 4 news

then come back to me with your tin-foil hat accusations. Dumbass.

the dailymotion link was too slow so I couldn't check, but the break.com one seems to be it, I skipped through it so I don't know if anything was edited out.

It's a rhetorical question by the way

boring forum drama conjecture poo. Also, why be so coy to call it 'the army' - unless you're hiding a dirty secret mr loverman. it was the IDF, as everyone in the world knows it and in all likeliness in israel too.

common misconception on this forum is that I'm so how politically mute 'in the real world'
nothing could be further from the truth, I'm a volunteer, helping to house illegal immigrants, homeless addicts, and looking out in general for weaker members of my society . I take part in protests, I'm active and vocal here on local issues at the council level, national issues too etc. I don't pollute the board with most of the local/national issues that concern me, but for that I probably won't get credit. So, in response to your silly assertion all I can answer you is 'Given past experience - Yes, I absolutely would'

Not at all. Nazism is form of fascism, in effect so is Zionism.
We can talk about the birth and ideology of zionist Israel later
3dot... wrote: so.. I welcome you to show me 1 side of the coin..I'll show you the other.. or a bit of both...

nah, you don't show any side of the coin. you just wilfully ignore the atrocities committed by your state against the palestinian people who you rarely if ever show empathy for unless it fits snugly into one of your wishy washy 'love is all aroundisms', and occasionally you blither on about peace. Very convenient outlook for an ex member of the IDF, living in what amounts to a fascist state sponsored by the world's largest military with vested interests in the middle east. There's plenty of conscientious objectors in israel - why weren't you one of them mr loverman ?

by all means - tell us some stories.

As for your comments regarding my highlighting the documentary 'Defamation' - sure, I should have started another thread for it. If I find a working link I will.

^ you jack off to Jon Stuart huh? listen to talk radio in your car so feel that you're somehow more educated and up to date? and spend a whole lot of time pointlessly worrying about whats going on "out there" so that you can escape your inner twat... you try and make someone else out to be the bad guy while all the while you're probably on the verge of doing something utterly stupid (and meaningless) while thinking that you can actually change anything. All that, and you use a music forum that you keep getting kicked out of as a launchpad for your world wide assault.

There is nothing current about the affairs in that part of the world. Its just re-runs.

I hate john stuart, and any show that attempts to make dimwitted funny-ha-has out of serious current affairs for the sake defusing the seriousness of said affairs.

Satire needs teeth, something that is by-and-large non-existant in the states.

as for talk radio ?...what ? You seem to be describing some kind of yank.

This side of the world we read reputable papers, by reputable authors professors journalists.

quit being a queen and check out the documentary, and then take a shit on it if you want.
