Amazing battery-powered USB hub for iPad!
Amazing battery-powered USB hub for iPad!
I built it myself using this:
It's pretty compact. Powered by four "C" alkaline batteries. You can find it on Amazon for $20 here. It's an accessory for the itty bitty book light by Zelco. With a custom soldered connector (Radio Shack) it now powers my Targus USB hub. To which I connect my Edirol PCR-300 and ultimately to the iPad via the CCK.
iow- no more wall warts! This baby cranks out 6 Volts. With fresh batteries I can connect two midi controllers and play them simultaneously in GarageBand. I kinda had a Keith Emerson flashback on the classic rock organ, lol. I'll post pics of my portable "rig" soon.

Re: Battery powered USB hub for iPad connectivity
I've successfully tested various bits of gear with my prototype, battery-powered, USB hub on an iPad2.
Following are some of the configurations tested:
The Bohemian - compact but uncompromising.

Impressive! If Batman played guitar that one would be it. This will revolutionize portable music making.Anubis wrote:The Varese - for the midi input enthusiast.

Here is another ultra-portable solution for music-making with the iPad. This one uses a rechargeable Li-ion battery pack.(Credit- djcubik from iosmidi.com)

You can use the Korg Nanoseries controler with the CameraConnectionKit!
They don't need the extra battery packs!
By the way here is my "on the road studio" (no extra battery-packs):
