Syncing Key as well as tempo?

Post by fn0000rd » Sun Dec 21, 2014 5:04 am

I'm regularly playing with another Push user and a keyboardist who uses Live, and we've got the machines syncing tempo just fine.

I'm wondering if there's a way to sync the Key as well, so if the midi "Master" machine changes to, say E flat, the other Push machines do as well.

Has anyone found a way to do this?

that would be awesome and you may be able to
work out some midi trickery using clyphx and routing midi to the other computer so you can trigger clips in it
and automatically change the push.. not sure but either way clyphx is very much worth your time and it is free

this also makes me think of my improvisational band i used to play in..
we would use sign language to change keys (and other things)
we used to call it improvisational composition.
our goal was to create songs on the fly and to not be a "jam band"
it was very much fun..

our set lists would read keys, tempos, styles, and who starts the song
rather then song names lol

the audience had no idea that we where improving (unless the knew)
even though we would flash sign language lol

if you try this route one tip..
mod the sign language to use one hand
and if you trying to communicate G flat
in sign language say flat G
so when your not communicating a sharp/flat key
you don't have to wait to see wether or not it is sharp or flat
because the modifier is first.

this would also be handy for time signature changes too
and rests

Hmmmm, that is some great stuff, thanks. We do actually change time signatures a lot too, so that would come in handy.

I hadn't heard of clyphx, that may solve another thing for me too. Basically, we have 3 people, each playing their own instance of Live, then I have a central Live machine (it's a 1st gen MBP wih a broken screen) recording audio of each of us as a stereo audio track. I'd love to also record everyone's MIDI data, but of course that's not being transmitted to the master machine -- maybe I could pull that off via clyphx....

if everyone is on a mac you could set up a network and send midi over the network,
i have done it one time just to check it out and it seemed to work pretty good

We've done that to sync tempo, I hadn't even thought to try recording it.
