there are some other files of mine in this thread here, they use a very different method from my tutorial.

These are more similar to Robert's technique.
It's all noises from the Ableton effects and nothing else, no samples and no midi!

You have to press play, otherwise they just sound like a motorboat as someone commented!

Is Robert's Generative01.als still available anywhere? The link originally supplied (http://www.monolake.de/ftp/Generative01.als.zip) is broken ...

Thanks

Robert is the man, but really what you should do is try max with live. I'm not kidding.
Neither has brought anything but love to my life. As much as live is brimming over with generative ambient possibilities, max+live= california grape-growing weather for generative ambient.

you can do random shit with live, not generative.

a difference, there is.

That is so not true. Not to be critical, but perhaps you should spend more time experimenting with live or engaging in the tips and tricks section?

I've checked out previous 'generative' tips/tricks/sets ... at the time I just didn't think they fully satisfied the definition of 'generative'....not to say it wasn't a cool sounding & rewarding process. I guess random falls under the umbrella term now... wikipedia confirms this...

Welp, I'll dig deeper and see.

my own generative explorations are not really 'random' , because that would just be atonal bloops, but they are "stochastic".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stochastic

a random seed triggers a 'choice' of options, the options are rule sets, and the selected option has further branching sets of rules, which are selected partially randomly and partially based on current situations

because of the various constraints and rulesets the outcome is not fully random because the trick and the skill is to create rules that give a wide range of options which remain musically interesting. (not just bleeps in a scale)

And this is exactly why i would love to see clip automation and follow actions on the master channel and the returns to launch whole scenes and mess with FX Automation.

I recently did some experiments with Kontakt's KSP scripting:
