time for the version 5 performance test.

You WILL see a higher cpu % in this test than you scored in the v.4 test.
So keep in mind, though this test .als may sound *similar to the version 4 test .als, the scores you get in v.5 will have nothing to do with the scores you got in v.4.
This test is for testing individual computers against each other, not version 4 against version 5, nor one test against another. this is a NEW TEST, and like the v.4 test its only goal is to compare Live 5 as a standalone program on certain machines versus on other machines.

Once again. the version 5 test has nothing to do with your scores in the version 4 test. Remember this.
:)

New Features Tested:
Complex Warping
Delay Compensation
Beat Repeat
Arpeggiator
Saturator
Phaser
Flanger
and others.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!
before performing the test - please set in preferences...
Audio - Input Audio Device > "No Input"
Audio - Output Buffer Latency > "512 Samples" (if you can't get latency this low - set it as low as you can without pops'n'clicks and make a note in your post)
Audio - Sample Rate > "44100"
Audio - Overall Latency - "0ms" latency compensation
MAKE SURE DELAY COMPENSATION IS TURNED ON under the options menu (This is a new v.5 feature that does indeed use cpu cycles and is critical to the test)

Midi/Sync - Remote Control Surfaces - NONE, NONE, and NONE.

MAC USERS:
Make Sure Energy Saver is set to HIGHEST PERFORMANCE for Processor.

PC USERS:
Make Sure Power Management is set to "ALWAYS ON", and that no other energy saving softwares are enabled (PowerNOW!, SpeedStep, etc.)

DOWNLOAD .ALS (2.4 MB)
http://66.221.205.118/adamjay/Live5PerformanceTest.zip

after completing the test, please post in this thread, and post only results in this thread....
please list:

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter % (if it bounces around, please list the peak)
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model
3) Operating System
4) CPU Make Model and Speed
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram (if you know)
6) Soundcard (Stock or add on?, usb/firewire/pci ?)
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)

if you do not know all of the specifications of your machine as listed above, please fill free to still participate in this public benchmark and at least list the specifications that you DO know.

Also, If you get glitches or Disk Overload, please make a note of it in your post. :)

to discuss the test - see this thread:

Your test is flawed. You have NOT taken in to account the differnce in PC peripherals. IM Pm'ed you and told you this. You should also have waited until the next update as Abletons sure to optimise the software.

Much to early for this test.

This is simply a thread for your Ego.

actually, retard, I have always found the test very useful, as people post more information than they need to.

peripharals DO matter on BOTH platforms, but if someone posts a high performance, it's still a high performance; if someone wants to try and emulate that machine INCLUDING their peripherals to obtain the same performance....

the trick with this sort of test is to get a large volume of data; that way you can quickly see which platform and peripherals and processor and ram you really want.

let's not get personal for the sake of it, retard; let's just post performance figures and assume that both PC and MAC users can see exactly how live 5 performance scales across both platforms.

This is simply a thread for your Ego.

it's not an absolute test, it's a baseline test.

and adam's "ego" has been demonstrated many times on this forum in the form of well articulated help, suggestions, or ideas, frequently without request for them. he's gone above and beyond the call of duty a few thousand times.

we'd appreciate it if you would take Computer Dude's suggestion. you've just made yourself not welcome here.

Pretty damn happy with that, i'll edit my post with my p4 2.4 laptop in the next few days.
