hold the bpm button and the record button on your KP2 until it goes into midi map mode (you'll know when it happens, takes 2 or 3 seconds)

---push the buttons 1 2 and 3 so that they turn dark, then:

---press and hold 4 and turn the program knob till it says 2 in the display. press the 4 button again so that it's lit up again.

---press and hold 5 and turn the program knob till it says 1 in the display.
press the 5 button again so that it is lit up again.

---now press and hold 6 and turn the program knob till it says 3 in the display.
now press 6 so that it is lit up again.

---now press 7 8 and 9 so that they are dark

---press and hold the record button for about 3 seconds till the kaoss pad does it's thing and saves your new settings.

so right now your kaoss pad is sending x 1/1 y 1/2 and touch is 1/3

---go into lives midi preferences and select a device from the list. use the bcr2000 device as you are pretending you're using one of those. now for input/output just select whatever device you are using to send your midi into the computer (in my case I'm using a firewire410 for input/output)
don't use pickup OR value scaling.

so now when you open any rack you're going to have the kaoss pad automapped to the first 3 macros, touch will be knob 3 which essentially becomes a switch (good for device on/off) and x and y are now controlling macro 1 and 2.

:)[/b]

Could you program the KP's dry/wet knob to be automapped to a fourth macro in the rack?

probably, I haven't messed with that yet, the manual is really difficult to understand so I had to fiddle for half a day to get this working the way it is, now I gotta figure out how to change the wet/dry knob to send 1/4. if you can in fact change the wet/dry midi then there is no reason it won't work.

so if i understand correctly, 1/1 1/2 1/3 are automaticly connected to macro1 2 and 3? didn't work when i did it... will check again tonight.

does this mean that when i have multiple racks, the highlighted/selected rack macro's (1 to 3) get 'assigned' to 1/1 1/2 and 1/3?

now thats handy... hope i can get it to work.

yes 1/1 1/2 and 1/3 become macro 1 2 and 3, but only if you tell live you're using a "bcr2000" and then set the input out put to be whatever your midi device, so in essence your kaoss pad is pretending to be a bcr2000.

works like a charm on my end. let me know if it doesn't work for you and we'll try to figure out why.

Does any know if you can do something useful with the program buttons on the KP2? I've tried looking in the manual, but that didn't make me much wiser.

I assume that the buttons are sendin Program Change messages?

To answer my own question: The buttons can be made to transmit program change messages. That in itself isn't terribly useful in Live. But with Midi OX those messages can be translated to Note Ons (although I can't get Midi OX 7 to send On, it always only sends Offs. Bug?) or CC's. That means those buttons can be mapped to stuff inside Live.

With help from hoffman2k I figured out how to get the preset buttons on the KP to switch between different racks. This means that I can control up to eight different racks from one KP without using the mouse. Pretty cool, eh? :D

Does this work for the original kaos pad as well? I'd love integrating that.
They should call them Acid Trippin Fun Pads.

Well, as long as the pad sends midi cc's out, it should work fine.
