If I was to invest in an amp, could I connect the direct out of the amp to the soundcard?

I just got an electric guitar and some pedals. I was hoping to give my tracks some nice drone textures. I was hoping to connect this via my soundcard and then my Rokits (which have a built in amps). Will this blow my speakers? Or do I need to invest in an amp?

Is it possible to play the Blofeld without a midi controller? Is it just a matter of connecting the stereo out to the input on the soundcard and connecting the the blofeld to the computer via usb? I have midi controller on the way.

Why have some of you taken the plunge? Was it always just something you had to do? Was it because of other artists? Is it simply to be creative? Do you wish to achieve something greater, or simply happy just making music for yourself?

Just curious to hear peoples mindsets towards it.
