Re: SIMPLER or SAMPLER's Sample Start controller mapping

Strange that Sampler doesn't allow direct automation of sample start (offset). It can be done easily enough though using the Aux envelope in the modulation tab. Enable the envelope and set controls as shown below and assign a MIDI controller to Peak . 0.0% setting plays the sample from its assigned ...

Thanks for the tip on Wave Editor. Looks interesting - think i'll try the demo, specially with Peak being discontinued.

Re: Record:Mix:Master, you separate or you do all together?

Mastering I do as a seperate process in a different app, just to give my ears a break. Tariketh - Which "different app" do you you for mastering and why not Live? Since Ableton brought the audio engine up to scratch i've been doing all mixing + mastering in LIve, always as seperate sessio...

Re: Export sounds different than when played in Ableton

Here's a test I did: 1. Loaded a 24/44.1 clip into Arrange and Session view, disable loop and warp 2. Rendered the clip at 24/16, normalize off, warp off, etc. 3. Imported the new render into a second track in Session view, disable loop and warp 4. Added a "Phase" Utility 5. Hit play The ...

atMonitor application [free] makes switching priorities on applications very simple...

... also very handy for seeing what's going on under the hood - if your mac starts crapping out it'll tell you which processes are eating up CPU / RAM resources

Re: Extra smooth running Live on OSX

I've had Live "reniced" [-15] for a few months now. Normally i don't have much else running when using LIve so hadn't bothered to do this before but one time my system got very sluggish when Spotlight was taking up crazy amounts of CPU doing it's "background processing" thing whi...

Re: Help with Drum Rack Transpose?????

here's how...
Adjust transpose value of any of the Simpler modules in your Drum Rack, then ctrl-click on the transpose field to bring up its contextual menu and select "copy value to siblings". All Simpler instances in the Drum Rack will then have your selected transpose value.

Re: Opening Ableton's aifs in any other program

Looked into this a little more. It's definitely not a problem with the Live Pack format in general - when i create my own Live Pack, the samples contained play back normally in other apps. Same goes for samples from other Live Packs i've downloaded. It appears only to be samples in Live Packs i've d...

Re: Opening Ableton's aifs in any other program

I think i've found what's up. I opened a couple of the files in a hex editor and there's some data in the file headers [highlighted in image below] that's clearly Ableton specific and i guess that's what prevents them being opened by any other app. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/532065/AbletonAiffHeader.png

Re: Opening Ableton's aifs in any other program

Mysterious! I have the same problem. Pretty certain it's nothing to do with .asd files as only Live references these files. I can open them in my audio editor [Peak], which recognises them as 24bit 48k aiffs, but playback is just overloaded noise. You can always load the files in Live and export aud...

Re: limiter settings

Tarekith's otherwise excellent beginner's guide must have been written before Live had it's own Limiter plug-in. There are definitely better Limiter plug-ins [+1 for Elephant], but you should be able to get a decent result using this setting and bringing up the Gain control till you get a sound you'...
