i too feel that ableton has gone the wrong route with all these lil gizmoes and all, i been a live user since version 4 :)
but as the versions moved on the program became less stable, more crashes and stuff...i would ditch all the crap and give us the right stuff, like dependable midi, it flactuates ...

build up... u mean in the context of progression... such as for example the snare roll and the reverse cymbal type of build up right???? well if thats what u ask it's all bout the midi grid where u program everything using different grids ya know 8,16,32 etc well that's where u break it down don't ...

i honestly feel that although ver 5 is not completely crap it's not polished yet it's definitly ruff when sending midi clock to another computer running live aswell.... and this sux the big one/!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i got 2 computers due to the fact the live is such a computer hog!

I personnaly like the minimoog over the modular but honestly i liked the cs80 softsynth better... it's the best one arturia has developed... for me it gets fast results nicer timbre than the other mention as far as comparing those you wanted with the minimonsta... errr you would have to just try ...

i got two computers running live in sync ... and for the most part 80% they're perfectly in sync once in a while the slave will react sluggish my solution-
restart both live applications and that clears the problem up..... my main complain is that theres pauses at times when im playing a midi file ...
