Processed files missing but their .asd files are there
My workflow is a lot of freezing tracks with effects on and dragging them to an audio track, but going back to a load of old tracks made in 10 and 11 many of the processed files are missing. Weirdly, most of their .asd files are still there. Being a suspicious person I don't let Ableton delete the f...

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly (UPDATE: Possible Fix)
By DP I mean DisplayPort via the USB3 socket to DisplayPort on the monitor. Yes it should be fine but for me it’s not but is fine at 1080p. I know Ableton can be unusually tAxing on the GPU too but I’ve noticed a marked improvement in Reaper too. As it seemed better running at native 4K resolution (...

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly (UPDATE: Possible Fix)
Crazy we have these powerful machines and either having to downgrade our monitors (as I will) or spend out on a £300-500 eGPU combo. But the question is, is the issue the Mac GPUs or Live? After all they advertise them as being great for multi screen 4K video editing. On the other hand my performanc...

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly
I'm quoting myself, but did someone clicked the link and tried the explained trick with monitor color's palette? Someone found a trick with monitor color's profile. Read the 1st post from this page . Ah that’s the one I meant to try too. Will give it a go. Odd though, you don’t expect the GPU to ha...

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly
Another funny update: I have a 4K screen, set to scaled, recommended scale over DP. On the recommendation above to see if the scaling is the issue, I ran it at default for display. Scaled: 4-5 notes Default: 9-10 notes While I'm still not convinced Live isn't causing some issues, there's clearly som...

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly
So here's a funny update. Opened a set of Omnisphere patches in Ableton, quite heavy, use some granularisation. In Live 10.1, as the only track with no other plugins loaded, I get 4-5 notes before it crackles. Focusrite Clarett Thunderbolt, 2048 buffer (512 buffer only allows 3). BUT load Omnisphere...

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly
Have you tried this? It’s about reducing Live’s frame rate. I’m going to try it tomorrow, as I’m having dropouts if I go below 256 samples. https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=230967 Interesting! I’ll try that, and the Spotlight tip too. Urgh, it’s like Windows 95 audio days again.

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly
Interesting. I do wonder if my issues stem from a second screen on a USB C port. I’d rather not have to shell out for a mostly pointless egpu for audio though.chilleddreams wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2019 6:42 pmUpdate from my side: I'm using an eGPU now with monitor attached to the external unit. Problems gone completely.

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly
Yep I can’t run Acustica on Live but can run a few instances in Reaper. I’m baffled. I’ve not tried the 10.1 betas yet as frankly I’d rather wait for the official release. Fingers crossed.

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly
I also have this problem. Mac mini 2018 i5 (6 core 3GHz). I loaded a project which I created on my previous computer (iMac 27" i7, late 2012). I was very surprised that the new Mac mini is performing very very bad with Ableton Live. My old computer was able to handle the project. But on the Ma...

Re: New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly
Hi - sorry for the slow update, grabbed a Clarett2pre as I wanted to avoid USB and I know TB should have a ton of bandwidth. Short answer - no, it's not really better. Even previously fine synths such as Omnisphere are killing it with a the kind of patch I could work with before. I'm running at a bu...

New Apple machine with 8th Gen i7 (Mac mini) running badly (UPDATE: Possible Fix)
Something of an update / possible culprit 21/7/2019: After tests (see later posts) I'm pretty certain that there's an issue either with the Mac mini and its handling of desktop scaling from 4K resolutions over DP in general, or a conflict between that setting and Live and its graphical handling. My...
