Re: Maybe 80's-synth-vocoder-track
Actually, no :D No you cannot. Not everything anyway. Some words that stand on their own come through a lot better. But it's just the nature of vocoded tracks I think. I was recently listening to Flaming Lips, one of the newer tracks has vocoder and I'm assuming it's all professionally mixed, but yo...

Re: Maybe 80's-synth-vocoder-track
I won't be able to help you with the mix...everything sounded good to me. Not sure if it was 80s but either way it was really cool.

Re: NI Massive sound with Operator?
I forget what the preset was called, but it was actually a pretty gritty/'messy' sound.
Thanks for the explanations everyone.

Re: Take two.
Cool track! I agree with Terrence, the bass needs more OOMPH! Also for the guitar part, here's what I would do: 1) record a 2nd take. 2) apply the Haas trick to each take, this usually works pretty well for rythm guitars. (to do this, use a filter delay, turn off center and put dry output to 0%, th...

NI Massive sound with Operator?
Purely for educational purposes, as I'm new to this, I wanted to recreate a Massive preset with Operator. So I went to dissect the sound, turning on each oscillator individually and turning off any effects on Massive. I started to run into problems right away. The oscillators don't have individual t...

Re: Take two.
Thanks for the comments and advice! That's a nice little trick that I forgot about with compression. Will do that. And fatten up the kick.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Take two.
I come to the Ableton community once again for some constructive ctiticism! Hope you guys can help me out as I continue on my production journey. How is it compared to the first attempt? Also, the track stops at 3:50. Some bits at the end made it into the mix. I didn't delete it because it's still a...

Re: Is my bass TOO heavy? (Dubstep)
Listened through headphones. I agree, just the bass in the beginning of the song can be turned down a bit.

Re: First attempt, please give me pointers
Thanks a ton Ninja.:D Do you mean the main part (one that fades in) or the one that has beat repeat? Or the bass? (that's the only synth) Yea the end kind of falls apart, I'll definitely clean it up. Thanks! Actually, all of the instruments that are playing until the piano or guitar or whatever tha...

Re: First attempt, please give me pointers
Thank you very much for your comments (here and soundcloud). Made my day. :D I get a bit obsessive over mixing, trying to set the levels just right, and applying the right effects (like compression, eq, etc). Then I wonder if I should add a compressor at all or if I cut out the 'right' frequencies. ...

First attempt, please give me pointers
Hey there. Well, here is a work in progress...I've been reading these forums and jamming away and putting all kinds of advice and techniques to use in this track. I'm a guitar player so this electronic stuff is still pretty new to me. Be nice! :) More importantly though, I don't want to continue wit...

Re: "Arpeggiator" functionality?
It had a bunch of different presets that would play different patterns based on the notes you were holding down at a given moment, with different syncopated/stuttery/trance-y/etc. beats that would traverse different octaves/intervals based on the pattern. Although I'm new to it, NI's FM8 synth has ...
