i installed the 1.8.2 update of maschine including the ableton template, and everything works fine. but since NI support is unable to supply a doc for the template i still haven't figured out what the duplicate button does. anyone with maschine got a clue?

patchmix can be a bit tricky. you have to insert a "send" into the according adat channel in the patchmixer.
