The Looper Device has a Follow Song Tempo Function, but you'll have to Tap Tempo, It has Quantization and it could be very accurate.

take a look at max mathews or miller puckette books of MaxMSP and work with histo+anal paradigm (markov chains inclusively).. apply it quantization in term of beat detecting.. and then work with the ratios you need for filtering the data the way you need.. I've only tried this in Windows, but Live worked great there as a ReWire master for audio. Create an audio track, set the input to rewire (in my case, "ReBirth audio") and then start up you ReWire slave program. I presume it'd be the same idea for MIDI. What was the glitch that you ran in...
