Re: fl studio is amazing - please give me some cons

I simply wanted to correct your misinformation (no drag/drop) and point out matters of taste. For instance, if you'd've loaded your samples in FPC, Slicex, or Directwave rather than each "lane", you wouldn't have needed to set up your padKontrol at all. Or, FL, unlike Live, provides suppor...

Re: fl studio is amazing - please give me some cons

-The UI is all over the place, and window management becomes a big pain in the ass Not when you learn the hotkeys or use multiple monitors. I've got three screens and love it. Totally wasted on Live though. -Zooming is similarly a pain in the ass ctrl right click drag. easy peasy -Trying to use a s...

Re: Anyone using a 37 key midi controller?

I don't like the Korg mini keys. I'm glad to see the KB37 is still being made.

Still, the main manufacturers have abandoned the 37 key models. Guess they didn't sell well. I plan on keeping my ReMote SL37 MkI forever.

Re: Anyone using a 37 key midi controller?

I've got controllers of every size, and the 37 is so useful. But who makes one anymore? When the last generation of MIDI controllers appeared, the 37 key models disappeared.

Re: Novation remote SL MK1 MKI - future proof?

I wouldn't worry about it. Automap looks better on paper than in actual use. It's not so revolutionary, and not nearly as integral to my stage or studio as I thought when I got it years ago. And yes, touch screens are replacing knobs quickly. Well, perhaps I should say the iPad is doing so. Hell, iP...

Re: What Percentage of Your Sounds and Effects Come From Ableton

Zero. Live's instruments and FX are too simplistic. Kid stuff. I don't know why they bother. Live's only quality feature is the Session View.

Re: Looking for advice on recording to cassette tape...!

If you're going to look for multi-track cassette machines, Yamaha can often be purchased a lot cheaper than Tascam via eBay. The MT4X is a nice machine.

Re: Looking for advice on recording to cassette tape...!

Bouncing to tape is always cool. Unfortunately, cassettes sorta suck and R2R's are a maintenance headache. If you are going to make the jump to tape, do so carefully. If you find an R2R machine cheap, you'll probably have to put money and time into making it run well. Old machines will have dead or ...

Re: Malcolm Mc Laren Is Dead! Rest In Peace!

Thanks for the props. I am equally unimpressed with most things popularly perceived as culture. As a previous poster mentioned, quite correctly, I wouldn't consider other "influential" music movements as revolutionary to anything but music; certainly not to the Human Condition. I love musi...

Re: Malcolm Mc Laren Is Dead! Rest In Peace!

I'm not even going to disagree with this, I simply would like you to name me musical movements that you think were revolutionary, because by your own strict standards, nothing is. If you don't consider changing fundamental parts of rock music important then the only thing left is total genre shifts...

Re: Malcolm Mc Laren Is Dead! Rest In Peace!

The DIY ethic was in play long before Punk. It was merely a surge. How do you think the music industry began? I've read many stories of small labels (for instance eg records) where everybody worked together at the grass roots level to make things happen. Cmon, most industries start as cottage indust...

Re: Malcolm Mc Laren Is Dead! Rest In Peace!

Stripping guitar solos, increasing tempo, reducing the age of performers etc (a dubious claim anyway). are not revolutionary changes in my book. Simple stuff really. Still a few chords, verse, chorus, manufactured and distributed by the same type of infrastructure as everyone else. Where's the rebel...
