Re: guitar sound quality
First I would recommend a good audio interface (anything that takes an XLR mic or 1/4 inch input, depending on how you want to record the guitar). Next, invest in an Art Tube MP pre amp (search for it on musicians friend). If you want to record your guitar from an amp, I would recommend an SM 57 poi...

Re: rendering question
I do know that most cds are sampled down into 44.1 at 16 bits anyways. This is part of the debate when it comes to the best rendering mode. I also know that mastering engineers do prefer the highest bit rate and sample rate possible. I'm not sure if there is a massive difference in the dither of say...

Thanks for the tip, concept. My MPD24 has been doing this for awhile. I had a suspicion it was dusty pots, but never got around to looking.

Use it to write the string parts for Italo Disco songs...or just use it to write Music for film/games!

Re: Should you EQ samples that you grab from other tracks?
It's all about context. Someone wrote those tracks with THEIR MIX in mind. It's your job to take those samples and make them bend to YOUR WILL, not vice versa. I remember Flying Lotus said something to that affect of; "I control the samples, don't let them control me". It's really all subj...

Great track! Was this all done using ableton live? Any external effects or softsynths used? The reverb/delayed out drum break rocks!

Re: How to select a non-square area in arrangement view?
Have you tried right clicking and turning off the grid in Arrangement View? Also, remember that the shortcut Ctr+E will split MIDI and audio tracks giving you even greater control. You also should be able to click anywhere within a track in Arrangement View with Grid Mode off and highlight any porti...

Re: How to string songs together
You know, I usually use Steinberg's Wavelab for this, and it usually works out pretty good. I don't know about natively being able to do it in Ableton Live. I guess you could export the songs individually, then load them all into a new project and do all of your fades and edits, then save out the en...

Re: Cheap keyboard to learn how to play properly on
Start with Minor and Major scales, and mess with Chords. Piano World is a great resource for these. http://www.pianoworld.com/fun/vpc/piano_chords.htm Stick to the basics first, it can be intimidating seeing all of these crazy inverted chords and exotic scales. Just stick to Major and Minor keys, le...

I hear you on this one. Also, using the freeze function on Ableton's Reverb can get some amazing sounds that can be used for texture, or other things in your mixes.

Re: Exporting audio
Usually I just go into Arrange View and highlight the track I want. Once it's highlighted it will be orange. Then go up and just export the audio. That should work.
