A couple of mastering questions from a rookie

Hi! I just have to ask since I'm a complete rookie when it comes to mastering: But to master a track, I must first export the song to one wav file, right? Or can I just put various mastering effects on my master channel? I have seen some tutorials where they do both, so I'm not sure what's best. Sin...

Please help: Bass sometimes sounds different when I open the same project

Hi! I have a very strange problem that I never had before: It seems like the strength of the sub bass differs a bit when I open a project. A week ago I exported a song and was happy the sub bass, but when I open the project today it sounded a lot thinner, both in Ableton and when I exported it. When...

A question about Filter Delay

Hi, I have a little question about Filter Delay: Is it possible to make the Filter Delay affect a just couple of notes in the beginning of a MIDI clip, but not the rest? I have a 8 bar melody where I use the Filter Delay, but I only want the first 2 bars to be affected. And I want those 2 bars to be...

Help please! Need tips to find/create club bass sound

Hi! I'm trying to make a song with a deep and powerful bass these days, but I'm really struggling to make the bass sound good. I have used Alors On Danse (Dubdogz Remix) as a reference song, but it's really hard. The sound I try to get close to is the bass around 0:58 in the video below. https://www...

Thank you both for the tips!

It sounds a bit wierd on my headphones too, but I will look into Multiband compression and Dynamic EQ :)

Make the bass in a bass track more "even"

Hi! I don't know the technical term for this, so I will try to explain as best as I can: I have a simple bass track (A, G, E, F) on a song, and I notice that the bass sound is a little uneven on the different notes (I think E was a little more "woofier"), especially when played with other tracks. I ...

Sample start (drum MIDI)

Hi! I have a drum MIDI track in a song, and I try to move the start end ending position (Sample Start / Sample End) of the drum hit by dragging those two arrows under the sample tab, but nothing happens. I'm sure I have done this before, so I wonder what I'm doing wrong now. Does anybody have a clue...

Good templates for electronic music?

Hi! Does anyone know any good sites where it's possible to download Ableton templates, primarily for electronic music? It would be interesting to see how others work, and I'm sure I could learn from it. As many here, I'm self taught, and I could have done many things easier if I only was aware of th...

Question about upgrading from Live 9 to Live 10 (both Suite)

Hi! I'm thinking about upgrading from Live 9 to Live 10 (Suite) soon, but I have a few questions: 1) It says that Live 10 Suite has 70+ GB of sounds, but since I have Live 9 Suite I would image that I have many of these sounds already. Does this mean I will get duplicates of many of the sounds, or i...

Re: Cannot UNDO!!!! Only thing in undo is "Change Voice 1 Level"

I also have problems with the undo function now, but it only happen while the song is playing. It started to happen just a few days ago, and I'm not sure why because I haven't bought any plugins or anything else for a while. Really strange. Has anyone found a solution to this? I have Live Suite 9 by...

Re: Input Type and pitch MIDI effect problem

I don’t remember if there is a pre-post kind of option in channel routings. Would be ideal if they had midi routing from the output of any particular device of your choosing. Otherwise you’ll just need to add a Pitch effect that mirrors the other (as in negative for positive etc) That's what I did ...

Input Type and pitch MIDI effect problem

Hi! I have two tracks in my project that play the exact same MIDI melody, and I learned that you can change the Input Type on one of the tracks so that it just plays from one MIDI clip. I found this to be very practical if I want to change the melody. In that way I dont need to change the melody twi...

Re: Question about Ableton and RAM (memory)

If you are using midi tracks mainly, this shouldn't affect Ram or disk usage, as midi is pretty low bandwidth data. Midi tends to affect CPU use if using softsynths. If you are using large sample libraries however, you could eat up ram. You can monitor your ram usage on a performance monitor progra...

Re: Question about Ableton and RAM (memory)

That's quite a bit of RAM already. Are you using a lot of large sample libraries? If not, adding more RAM probably isn't going to do much for you. No, I mostly use normal MIDI instruments. But some of the songs have many tracks with effects from different plugins etc., so that is probable the reaso...
