Re: Are some kicks on Splice too bad for mastering?

Just means you're hitting the limiter too hard, so the easies option is to just turn down the input or turn up the threshold to reduce how hard you're hitting the limiter. The new kicks are likely just compressed more and are making your song louder than it was before, so you're doing more limiting...

Re: Are some kicks on Splice too bad for mastering?

if it sounds fine on its own, but after output, it’s distorting, your kick and/or master level is probably too loud. turn down and export at a usable volume—usually you want at least like 2 db of headroom. it’s generally not a great idea to be concerned with your LUFS at the mixing stage. that’s wh...

Are some kicks on Splice too bad for mastering?

Hi! I have struggled to get my kicks to sound good and clean then trying to master (they get distorted). These are Splice kicks from known producers like Kshmr etc., so I guess they should have been made for mastering? But the other day I had an online lesson, and my teacher suggested trying another...

Safe to delete bakcup folder?

Hi,

This is probably a stupid question, but I just need to be sure :)

Is it safe to delete the files in the backup folder? Some of my project have very many backup files, which take up a lot of space.

Any tips to get the master loud enough?

Hi, I'm trying to master song now, but I struggle to get the sound loud enough. My reference track is Swedish House Mafia's "Redlight": https://youtu.be/D64a2fb72sE?si=Ia1lkkFPWwW7Yv6E&t=25 It's a fairly simple song, so I don't understand why my song get distorted if I push it to -7 LU...

Re: Mixing in mono – need som help please

If the presets were created with everything panned super wide and nothing in the middle, you might not be able to change that much. Mid-Side powa's your friend in that case! @Chrisitan_R, you can build MS encoder/decoder racks with Live devices. If you're feeling lazy and want extra stuff, here's a...

Yep, that's what the Width knob is for. Try a setting around 50 or 60 on some of the really wide sounds and see if that helps!
Thanks. I will check that out!

Re: Mixing in mono – need som help please

Usually I use Utility for this and reduce the width of some sounds. No need to make it totally mono, but you can bring back a little more to the center of the mix that way. Sometimes there’s not a lot you can do though depending on the sounds you’re using. If the presets were created with everythin...

Mixing in mono – need som help please

Hi! I'm trying to get better in mixing in mono, but I find it a little hard. I use a lot of synths from Serum, Massive etc. and I think many of those get too quiet in the mix then I turn on mono. It sounds to me that the presets are too wide, so I'm wondering if there's a good solution to fix this? ...

Some Serum synths stopped working after latest update – please help

Hi, I just updated to the latest Serum today, and all of a sudden some Serum synths just stopped working. I have tried both VST and VST3, but no sound (some have just a quarter of a second sound before going quiet). I don't get any error messages. Also when I press mye keyboard, the LFOs and Filter ...

Re: Ableton EQ Eight problem with mix downs

I see this is a very old thread, but I have the exact same problem now  Has there come a better way to fix this, 11 years later? :) I thought EQ 8 would fix that if I chose "Low cut"? When I look at SPAN, there's still frequencies below 20Hz even if I put EQ 8 at at the and of my mas...

Cut 20Hz on the Master channel?

Hi! I just saw this video, where he recommended cutting below 20Hz. Is this the normal way to do it for EDM music? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvJ5O5n4ksE I also installed Voxengo SPAN and checked a new song by Deadmau5 and Kaskade, and it looks like there not much going on below 20Hz there eith...

Re: Any experts/experienced on Fabfilter Pro L2 here?

I'm still learning mixing too so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. But I like using Pro-L2 along the way even if my mix is not 100% finished. I find it easier to compare it to other songs if the volume/power is more similar :) the iZotope "Are You Listening?" series on YouTube is a g...

Re: Any experts/experienced on Fabfilter Pro L2 here?

Yes you CAN do that, but I would say if you're not able to get the loudness you need out of one L2 then adding another will likely not help. You can definitely achieve the loudness you want with only a single Pro-L2 with enough practice and a good enough mix. It was my go to limiter for my masterin...

Uneven volume/EQ on Massive

Hi! I noticed that a bass sound on Massive has an uneven volume. I first thought it had something to do with the different notes being played. But when I made a new MIDI clip with just one long note stretching over 8 bars, after a few seconds it sounds like it's getting more low end on the EQ, and I...
