I've had the same issue with LFO, other devices live Color from MaxForCats etc.

The fix was to force Ableton to use the internal graphics rather than the GPU of my notebook.
I had to re-install the latest driver for the GPU (in my case NVIDIA) and use their tool to set the internal graphics for ...

I've had a UC-33 some years ago.
I'd say the build quality on the LCXL is better, it's slim and sleek. Feels actually very good to work on.

Compared to the UC-33:
USB only - not a problem if your using it as Live controller only
Center detent of the pots - annoyed me a bit in the beginning as I don ...

Ableton support was very helpful in explain the error (a CPU overload) and pointing to potential solutions.

If you've got M4L, you might want to try this:

Live's MIDI Clips support MIDI program changes as well as bank changes:

Now the key thing is:
your plug-in has to recognize those MIDI program changes.
Live's internal instruments and effects don't do that.

Then you should look more into modulations, either in your sound sources (e.g. plug-ins) or in effects on the tracks.

You won't need M4L, since you can "host" each audio file in a Simpler and put a number of them into chains of a rack.
You can crossfade between chains, if that's your idea of "morph".
