Re: Ray Bradbury RIP

To post a quote from his "Zen In The Art of Writing" book that can really be utilized in any creative aspect of life, "Every morning I jump out of bed and step on a landmine. The landmine is me. After the explosion, I spend the rest of the day putting the pieces together. Now, it's yo...

Re: New user introduction,

Cheers guys If only i did'nt have to spend most of my days at work :( I worked at one corporation from 1993 until 2010 when it finally went out of business. I have to admit, since I've been out of work my Ableton Live skills have increased dramatically! Sad but true. Anyway, welcome to Ableton Live...

They mean for you to look on page 243 of Live's user manual for help with your drum pad question.

Re: Ableton Instruments

I never really thought about it before but I think I'm a fan of simple, generic names over ridiculous names that were created by some marketing department in a boardroom.

Let the sounds these instruments are capable of do all the expressing. Not their names.

Re: Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?

Bit off the main topic here, but I wonder what it is that can be making any noise in the APC? I mean, the power supply is external, there's no fans, no need for any fancy processor, no motors, not even a display. I would expect it to make as much noise as my UC-33e, which is exactly zero. I'm not s...

Re: Anybody have a faulty APC 40 yet?

My APC40 works great with the exception that it makes a very low white noise when turned on. I talked to an Akaipro tech person and he said it's normal but if it gets louder I have a one year warranty, blah blah blah. Now that I am aware of this noise, it irritates me a little. Seems pretty solid o...

Re: Films with great NON-electronic soundtracks

"Conan the Barbarian" by Basil Poledouris. Probably my personal favorite. "Ravenous" by Michael Nyman and that dude from Blur. Another great soundtrack. And speaking of Nyman, his soundtrack for "The Piano" is great, too. And even though the film wasn't the greatest, th...

Re: Something wrong with this forum.....please correct

I concur with the idea of ridding yourself of IE. I hated Firefox 2 but I gave Firefox 3 a chance the day it released and haven't looked back. Even Mac weirdos ( :D ) should be using Firefox over Safari.

If Hendrix was alive now, we'd probably be discussing the merit of the disco albums he released in the late 70's.

Re: Okay Newbie question....

I always highlight the tracks I want to render. And maybe I use the loop bar at the top to select the full length of the song and then click on that, too. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been using Live since version 5 and thought you always had to do these things. Maybe that changed ...

I just walked into a Guitar Center last Saturday and bought one off the shelf. It was the last one, however.

Re: Do you find that........ [perfectionists]

I usually get the most juice from working on a track during the first few days anyway. After that is a point of diminishing returns. I think many would agree with this. I think the longer we work on something we find that the fun factor and initial thrill slowly departs. The "magic" that ...

I also have the Audio Kontrol 1 and give it a thumbs up. Save for some minor oddities I went through with it the first day I got it, it's worked fine ever since.

Re: forum account merge hell

More like "forum account merge heaven " for me! I could only lurk for years because I think my forum account was tied to some e-mail address I no longer had access to and I stupidly/ignorantly forgot my account name, making the password recovery feature useless to me. So yeah, for me it wa...

I've found this site informative and useful: http://www.processlibrary.com/ Basically, open up your Task Manager, see what processes your system is running, then look them up on this site to see if they're critical to keep around. It's a comfort finding out what some of these cryptically named proce...
