It took me a little time to sort out the routing. It's not exactly intuitive. 1) Put Guitar Rig in Audio 1 2) Create Midi 2 and route midi from you controller to Audio 1 3) Create Midi 3 and place your prefered VSTi 4) Route the audio from Midi 3 to Audio 1 and set up Audio 1 to receive the audio. A...

Daisy Chaining Midi VSTs loses Midi (SOLVED)

When I drop Guitar Rig 2 as an effect into a Midi track in Live, I can set up continuous controller automation. I can have GR2 "learn" my pedal as CC4 and I can assign it to the Wah component pedal. All works cool - I can move the pedal and everything works. However, if I insert a VST inst...

When I was trying to decide between an Apple 20" and the 19" monitors around, I was worried about the higher resolution on the 20" It was 1600 x ??? compared to the 1280 x 1024 for most 19" I basically bought both (after making sure I could get full refunds) took them home and tr...

A lot depends on plugins and effects whether from Live or from third party. Just out of curiosity I ran a test with one scene and lots of tracks - audio only. I was hitting about 50% CPU when I went over 50 tracks. I stopped because it was getting boring dragging all those clips. On the other hand, ...

I noticed a couple of things. I created a new partition and clean installed to 10.4.4. Then I used migration manager to copy all my old stuff which can really bloat up a clean system. I'm at Live 5.0.3 After installing the new M-Audio drivers for my Delta 66, my latency went way down. Using the tone...

It must be really REALLY frustrating to realize that 3/4 of your Quad Mac is just sitting there. On the other hand, you can play Quake and run Live without a glitch in either.

Angstrom poses a very strong point. It hit me that a lot of music, including much of my own, is led by the technology vs. led by artistic expression. It's not clear exactly if this is bad or not, but it's interesting to make it explicit. I worked with a guitar player a few weeks ago, and a lot of wh...

We kind of got off of the subject. If you are thinking about going with the new dual core machines, also remember to think about whether you are going to use any audio boards. The new machines are using PCI Express slots and if you have any older PCI or PCIx boards you'll be out of luck -- they won'...

Baronv's comments about his dual G5 outperforming the single processor imac is probably mostly due to the fact that he's using NI plugs (which will utilize the other processor) and Rewired Reason, which will also balance pretty well. I've heard that some plugs will not automatically use the other pr...

The only problem with revision is that it needs to be the rewire master. When this is true, Live has to be the slave. As a rewire slave, Live does not have access to VSTs or VSTIs, which is a real drag as far as I'm concerned.

The macfixit site mentioned that 10.4.3 screwed up the M-audio drivers, so m-audio interface users beware :( . Currently my M-audio Delta 66 is working pretty well under 10.4.2, so I guess I'll just stick with this version until M-audio updates their drivers.

My favorite story about Descarte is how he died. He used to stay in bed all morning, reading and writing, very leisurely. He needed to leave France and accepted a position with the Royal Family of Norway (Norway, Denmark, I can't remember which of those Scandanavian countries). Anyway, the queen req...

I like the list view because if your folder names are too long you have to keep resizing the columns in the column view to see things right. Otherwise it's fine. I just ran a virus checker to see if anything is wrong with my system and it came back absolutely clean. My clean install Tiger system wor...
