Anonymouse' post doesn't really surprise me. I think one of the things that has made operator as successful as it has been has been the excellent tutorials included with it. Tutorials are often a weakness of both hardware and software synths. Either they don't really exist and the developer expects ...

Slightly off topic-

Thanks for this heads up. I checked the m-audio site and found they had updated their drivers for the Delta series on April 12. Things seem cleaned up interface-wise, and the driver seems pretty solid performance-wise, although I only banged on it for an hour or so.

Make sure no Reason tracks are selected for midi in (the little keyboards in the Reason sequencer window should be all gray), set the monitor mode in Live to "On", and select the device you want from the Live "Midi to.". Or you could set the Live Midi track monitoring to "au...

I had this problem quite a bit until I increased my RAM to ! Gig. I still get occasional crashes (usually when changing ensembles or trying to start two instances of Reaktor) but it's become much more stable with more RAM.

I've changed my feelings about Hunter over time. I've read a lot of his books and kind of immortalized him over the years. My image of him as a totally free rasty last of the individuals was probably more mythology than fact. No matter how cool he seemed, I get the feeling that personally you really...

Missing clip dialog has Japanese in it...

I opened some previous Live Sets in Live 4.1 which have missing clips. The dialog comes up saying the clip is missing and ask me if I want to search for it. The problem is that the text for the name of the missing clip looks like it's Kanji or some other language than english. Everything else looks ...

Live 4.1 perspective

Man, there's been a lot of controversy over 4.1. What's unusual for this forum is that there is a lot of anger and negatvity. I think I know why. Ableton has been releasing substantial point releases on a break-neck schedule for quite a while now. We've come to expect major new goodies every six mon...

I'm not sure, but you might try checking Preferences -> Network and look at the ports for each of your locations. See if any have the modem port checked. If you don't use the modem (because you use dsl or cable) uncheck the modem port and see if the problem goes away.

I have been able to get live to pass patch change messages to Reaktor from my midi keyboard. But it does not always work as expected depending on the specific ensemble. First, do you mean sound banks or patch change? Some ensembles in Reaktor do not automatically respond to patch change messages. Yo...

Yeah, I always have gotten dropouts on patch changes for Vsti's or Au's. I'd expect that the Vsti might have a dropout depending of voices, envelopes, etc. but all of my Live audio clips dropout also.

At first I couldn't get RS to even change ensembles without crashing. With Live 4.04 and expanded RAM (I'm now at 1Gig) it seems way more stable. It's a real cpu hog and for intense ensembles I have to run RS at 22 khz. Most of the time it will crash if I try to start up multiple instances on differ...

New OS X version out - 10.3.7

I just noticed that Apple just released a new version of OS X. Man, that was fast. Makes me wonder what exactly was wrong with version 10.3.6. I've heard of mixed results about 10.3.6. I guess I'll wait to see if this one is better.

I don't know if they are exactly being quiet. Look at the recent performance test results done here. Although there are some general trends, there are a lot of confusing results (like how did someone with a slower computer but same basic model do better than a slightly faster one). It's a confusing ...

I'm not sure this will help, but I noticed with some of my midi files that Live won't recognize them as midi files unless the file has a ".mid" extension on the end of the filename. Renaming the files (although somewhat inconvenient) seemed to fix the problem.
