Solved! It needed lifting up, not widening. That is exactly what I need. Thanks for your help...

I have dragged it very wide, but still no scale. Is there something I need to turn on? What I should have mentioned - it is Live 8.

Thanks for the quick reply. The problem is on my Master Channel display there is no scale. So all I know is where the 0 db level is (marked by a line).

Hi all, I am sure there is a dead simple answer to this. I need to export a song I have made "in the -6 dB to -3 dB range". What is the best way of finding the peak level in a song? Is it to just whack a spectrum analyser on the master channel?

Thanks for the reply. Are you listening to the drums right at the start, or the loop which kicks in at 44 secs. Interesting that you think it is a live drum loop sample. That never occurred to me at all! I assumed it was all built using a drum sequencer...

Hi, I have been struggling with this. Sure there is a simple solution. I have a loop, and occasionally at the end of a bar I want it to sound like it is on vinyl and has been stopped. Then carries on at the start of the next bar. Any tips on how to do this?

I am trying to get a particular type of bassline sound. I am close but no cigar. It is that kind of breakbeat bass sound that A Skillz uses a lot. An example of which is here:

One other bit of advice needed for this. I often import a couple of tunes into Ableton and mess around with them a bit for my DJ sets. What is the best way to mix down these and avoid the muffled output previously described because I only have two channels - one for each tune.

Thanks for the advice. It is as I suspected - there is no short cut!

One other thing, is it safe to trust the 3.5 m headphone jack on my laptop or should I be thinking of getting a decent external soundcard?

I have noticed that the tunes I make in Ableton, while sounding OK on my PC through (not the world's best) headphones, when I export them to WAV and play through my stereo, they sound kind of muffled.

I did a search on this forum, and the answer seems to be to mix down/master the ...

Ah ignore my last question - I discovered how you can add modulation control over the midi pattern.
