Sneak and Farina are very similar - they came up at the same time and have shared countless stages/booths together. There are even a few tapes floating around of them double-teaming the decks. Maybe you are thinking of Farina's Mushroom Jazz stuff (which is downtempo and also from a series of ...

Its not a question of right or wrong...but the people that you mention are all over the map. Steve Hurley and Marshall Jefferson were making 1979 style house in 1979...I haven't heard much out of Jefferson that was post-1992, but Steve Hurley is doing a south-side RnB style of house. When I think ...

coming from Chicago, I can tell you right now that if you jack some old disco track, you will gain no respect. That road was travelled down decades ago and now smacks of stale, easy-way-out mentality. I don't mean to say that as a jab at those who suggested it, but if you want to make music for the ...

If you don't like iTunes, don't vote for it. Plain and simple.

If you don't want iTunes to 'control' the industry, change it. But by attacking those who don't see things your way, you isolate yourself, not iTunes.

and really, there is nothing pure about WMC. There is nothing pure about anything ...

MrYellow - why 'yawn?' This is a pretty important topic if you ask me.

Did I miss something?

I think everyone is confusing bit depth and bit rate. The 32 float bit depth is representative of internal processing only in Live. The majority of plug-ins (commercial at least) operate at 32 bit float. Some such as Ozone, Waves (I believe) operate at 48 point. a well written plug-in will convert ...

I thought that when rendering you could only choose 24 or 16...i'm not in front of it now, so I may be way off.

In the preferences, when you set the bit depth, that is for recording correct? My understanding was that all calculations in the audio engine took place at 32 bit float...

Man, I wish ...

I have to say, I think it matters a whole lot. Live already stretches and crunches the bejesus out of digital audio, most likely leaving a lot of quantization errors to begin with...really, you should even use dither and noise shaping when going from 32 to 24bits. Its kind of weird that you can't ...

I stand corrected - I was typing quickly and gettign distracted (stupid office job!).

Thanks for setting the record straight.

Either way you look at it, I've found that my depth of field improved by vast amounts when I started mixing 'out of the box.'

I've experienced the same thing. Its to be expected though - a main mix bus in a DAW is a very hard thing to engineer correctly. since Ableton has done such a great job with audio manipulation, I think we can let it slide!

As a general rule, however, with all DAW's, it really helps to not push the ...

I can definitely hear a difference between Live and Digital Performer. I generally compose in Live and mix in DP. The mix bus in DP seems to have a higher internal bit rate (32). The difference between Live and Pro Tools 48bit floating is huge in my opinion.

I recommend bouncing your individual ...

i totally agree with you guys - almost all of these mags suck now. Remix hit an all time low recently. They had an article about how you should buy 'vintage' gear taken from old consoles and it will be like having a neve studio!!!! They say things like, 'oh you just need to wire up a power supply ...
