If so, wouldn't this in essence mean that I could never use any of the clips in my tracks (until I of course bought Operator)? If that's the case, call my cynical ...

Nope, I didn't load Operator. Thinking it was some sort of glitch I rebooted several times to see if this would fix it but....no luck!
