Re: Ableton Looper Effect

Instead of mapping your midi controller to the overdub button directly maybe you could map it to a one-shot two bar midi clip which has two notes, one at the start of the clip and one at the end of the second bar. Assign that note to the Looper main button and loop the midi track back to the input s...

Re: Getting a Good Electric Guitar Sound

I have a Yamaha THR-10. It's a little digital practice amp/soundcard that uses a pair of hifi speakers. For a dorm room situation it'd be perfect. The amp models sound way better than Amplitube or any other software I've used. They sound terrific actually. The clean tones in particular are wonderful...

Re: Need advice. Fabfilter vs Ableton's Audio Effects

I have the Fabfilter bundle and I love all the plugins. You won't be disappointed if you do choose to invest in them. The sound quality is excellent, they're very sophisticated feature-wise and easy to use as well. That said, Live's effects are very capable, particularly once you factor racks into t...

Re: Using the Touch Strip to control Mod wheel in a synth?

I wish the Push could just have a "mod wheel mode" under the user settings.
Me too. This seems to be a 'no brainer,' as they say.

Re: Looper - visual feedback from several tracks at once??

I don't have a solution to show all three loopers at once... but this may help as an alternative workaround... When I midi map record button, I also mdii map the same message to the device bar of each looper I use. This way, when I press the button to engage the looper, the device I'm using comes i...

Re: Apogue duet 2 or RME babyface

I've owned both. The Babyface is much more flexible given that it'll work on Mac, PC and iPad, etc. Its internal mixing capabilities are hugely more sophisticated and it has some built in effects (reverb, EQ, delay). It has a midi port. The Apogee has soft limiting capabilities and you can set both ...

Re: The new Mac Pro

You are confusing looking nice with good design. You could show that design to anyone with experience of heat management and they'll tell you that the concept should work very well. Except those hopelessly blinded by Mac hate of course. same goes for g4 cube. you are confusing concept with practica...

Re: Prosoniq Morph

I've tried the demo of it before although I can't remember what the routing was off the top of my head. If you rout an audio track to the track that Morph is on does Morph appear as a destination in the submenu? I think that's how it should be done. Unless it's done by having two plugins sharing aud...

Re: Live 8 on a 13" retina display (pictures)

I've got a retina display and Live does indeed look crappy on it. It isn't the end of the world but nor is it a non-issue. It's harder on the eyes, text is less easy to read and so on. It doesn't hinder any functionality but it is annoying, occasionally distracting and it should be fixed.

Freeze/sidechain workflow, partial freezing of tracks

When attempting to freeze a track that has sidechain routing in it instead of displaying an error message Live should provide an option to freeze up to the sidechain and keep the devices past that point active. i.e. partial freezing. Example track: Synth | Delay | Autopan | Compressor (sidechained) ...

Re: Max for Live requests - what would you like to see?

Some way of automatically exporting layers from the Looper effect as clips would be amazing.

Might be totally impossible of course. I'm not even sure how much M4L can even touch Looper.

Re: Making Ambient Music (tips, methods, workflow, etc)

Un-synced loops are very useful. Having different layers moving in and out of phase with each other (not necessarily in a Steve Reich fashion) creates variation. I use lots of randomisation and modulation. Avoid things sounding static at all costs. Even if it's very repetitive find variation in the ...

It sounds really nice - and next to no latency, too (which is perhaps why it's quite CPU intensive).

Re: Midnight Skin in L9?

will the old one in 8 save over? Don't see why it wouldn't. skatr2 is right; you can copy it over if you have a copy of live 8 sitting around. the midnight skin works fine for me in live 9. on a mac: right-click the live app and select "Show Package Contents"; the skins for each version are in Cont...

It'd be better if it showed the user's custom names for devices rather than generic names. Still, a useful feature.
