Re: Late 2008 MBP - update or not?
what kind of hard disk are you using? if you are still on hdd i recommend updating to ssd and storing ableton+its samples, packs, instruments etc on it. this will give you the most bang for your buck imo

Re: Mac Pro 1,1 or 2,1 for Ableton Suite 8?

Updates happen for a reason. Are you willing to forgo bugfixes, stability updates, hardware/software support improvements for the rest of the life of your machine?

Re: Help! New To Producing Question
The track was almost definitely composed at 140 bpm even though you feel it in half-time. this is a pretty common trick when composing dubstep, hip hop, trap type music. You heard it at 80bpm, which is not so far off because it's felt at 70bpm. Try this pattern at 140bpm: http://i.imgur.com/ouZNZpW....

Re: Mac Pro 1,1 or 2,1 for Ableton Suite 8?
i would strongly advise against buying a computer that old - you're almost guaranteed to run into update issues, and 1gb of ram (standard on mac pro 2.1) is under the minimum requirements for running live 8.
If youre working on a tight budget I'd think about an old macbook pro with an ssd upgrade

Live 9.5 used to beachball for me regularly until I upgraded to an SSD. Suggest you do the same if possible, and if you haven't already

Re: How to record a song?
i'm assuming you mean how do you print the project as one audio file? File -> Export Audio/Video -> (choose your settings, most common standards are 44100 for sample rate and 16bit for bit depth. also make sure your "render length" and "render start" are correct) -> export

Re: Optimizing Ableton? Performance Issues on New PC
I just installed Live 9 Standard last night and did a test run of the software. I love it but I had two concerns after about 2 hours of testing: 1. CPU meter - it was constantly at 20-35% with only 1 or 2 Ableton instruments loaded. 2. Disk overload - nearly every time I loaded a new instrument int...

Re: Is using synth presets 'cheating'?
art has no rules
presets are a pretty great way to sound exactly like every other chucklehead who downloaded a DAW though. in my opinion you should try to be original

Re: APC40 or Push better for my needs?
Fyi, I wasn't able to try the Push (should have known better than to think GC would have one set up), and was leaning towards the APC, but a Push showed up for $200 on ebay, with a hard case, so I grabbed it. Figure even if it turns out not to be my thing, I have nothing to lose at that price, so w...
