Anyone here use Ableton for Rock/Indie??

I feel I am in the minority as most Ableton users seem to be dance guys, but I find Ableton great for composing rock/indie music loops then pasting it all together on the timeline for the skeleton of a track and re-recording bits as necessary. I use BFD2 for drums and I find it a great workflow ...

Re: Mixing on Headphones

I hear that open back headphones are much better for mixing than closed back. I have closed backs and they sound boxy and unatural, open backs sound more like speakers in a room (so i hear) which is why I intend to get a pair.

Re: How to clean up Guitar hum

The hum is not so big, but would be nice to have a professionally clean recording.
hum is part of the ambient sound of the guitar, let it go.

a gate should be enough, anything beyond that is part of the instrument.

yay humbuckers. ;)

This is a good point, I find when I leave the hum etc the ...

Re: Do you get tired of your songs when working on them?

This is a really interesting thread and I hope I can add some new perspective on it.

Firstly I remember hearing Billy Corgan once said something like 'show me something once and it might amaze me, show me it again and it will never come close to the same feeling'. Which I think is a good assessment ...

Mixing more than one track using same settings - advice need

Hi Guys,

I was wondering. If you have one track that you have mixed and you like it, and you want another track to have the same fader settings and plug in settings (to get in the same ballpark quickly) is there a quick way of doing it without writing down fader settings and plug in settings etc ...

this would be fantastic if ther bloody electribe didn't cancel its solo out when changing patterns in Song Mode!!

As for the auto sampling suggestions, is this required if I am only going to be sampling two or maybe three patches?

thanks again

thanks for the input!

mapping the key ranges with five simplers sounds complicated, how would i go about doing this?

I am leed to believe the sounds of the Korg EM1 synths are PCM wav files. Is it likely for each synth sound to have more than one sample under the hood? it isn't a very ...

I have a Novation NIO which is USB powered, two headphone outputs rugged, good metering. Also pretty well priced. I havn't tested it extensively as it is fairly new but it seems very good, also has onboard DSP effects.

Or the EMU tracker Pre - bus powered and excellent convertors if the USB 0404 is ...

There are actually only two or three sounds on the EM1 I want to port over, and I also thought that Simpler allowed manipulation of the samples frequency etc?

I have a few soft synths but can't seem to match the sounds so easily.

Recreating the Korg EM1- Using Simpler and Impulse

Hi All,

I have a question for you. I have a Korg EM1 but it is annoying that I cannot get seperate audio outs from it into Ableton (isolate each synth line and drum). So I was thinking of recreating the Korg in Ableton and using Midi.

Now I have managed this with the drums by sampling each drum ...

Thanks for your thoughts.

Thing is, I havn't been using any samples or previously mastered material. I find I have master at least -4db to get material which doesn't distort badly with any form of music player EQ being increased, or with WAV volume increased.

The reason it worries me is because most people play their music back on their laptop and I want my mixes to be compatible. I am just really scratching my head on this.

Could it be that most modern mixes mastered to 0db are pushed into overload by any gain added by either software EQ or software ...
